I actually made the same mistake of adding 2, 4 and 2. Then I learned that it is actually 2, 2, 2 because the earth’s creation plus the measurement of sustenance was done in a total of 4 days. It’s like, the earth was created in 2 days, the sustenance together with the creation is in 4 days total.
Then the heavens were created in 2 days. So 4+2 = 6. Hopefully this helps!!

Al Fussilat : 9 - 12 indeed detailing and strengthen what Allah says in Al Anbiya : 30 that heaven and the earth was one and then make them separates means the period of make them is same. Which states in Al Fussilat 9 and Al Fussilat 12 that earth and heaven both were made in two days. MashaAllah.
