I’m thinking that Garp, Roger, and Rocks were possibly best friends growing up like the usual big three Shonen trope. (Ace, Sabo, Luffy) or (Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, whatever your poison) And they had a falling out of sorts and grew up going in different directions. That’s why all of them were so anxious to meet and fight at God Valley.

They probably tried to stop Rocks but ended up having to kill him. Seems like it might be an awesome but sad scene if I’m correct.

Bro I have a theory, in the episode when imu was firstly showed the five gorosei said to imu "this time which light is to be removed from history" which means either luffy or blackbeard, now at God valley incident either the marine defeated rocks .d.xebec ("dark dark nomi" user i believe as ) so now they will be defeating luffy ( Nika Nika nomi or God of sun ) .
