The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill on Wednesday (Mar 13) that would force TikTok's Chinese owner ByteDance to divest the US assets of the app or face a ban.
In a video posted on the platform on the same day, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew stressed that the company will "not stop fighting" and will exercise its legal rights to prevent a ban in the United States.

Australian Prime Minister Albanese said on the 14th that the Australian government does not intend to follow the example of the United States.

"We will take advice, but we have no plans to do that, " Albanese told a radio reporter when asked whether Australia would "jump on the bandwagon".
"You have to always put national security first, but you also need to recognize that for a lot of people this provides a way of communicating. So we have not been advised to do that at this stage, " he said.

TikTok President Zhou Shou Zi stated that the company will not stop speaking out for users and will continue to work hard to protect the platform, including exercising legal rights.

He also said that if this bill is signed into law, "it will lead to the ban of TikTok in the United States...while causing creators and small businesses to miss billions of dollars, putting the jobs of more than 300, 000 Americans at risk."

ByteDance has no chance in winning the legal battle against this bill.
The bill basically doesn't ban TikTok.
- The legislation requires the app, and its data, to be divested from the authoritarian surveillance Chinese government.

the reality is Tiktok will still be around just different owner even if this pass into laws. Their intention is to own it themselves (american owned)

The US is jealous of Tiktok's success. Forcing them to sell or face ban is extortion and thats illegal. That ban will not stop users from using a VPN.

Why does China 🇨🇳 warn citizens in Singapore to stay away from gambling? We never seen any ambassador of India, US, SEA, UAE, Indo-Pacific, etc to stay away from Marina Bay Sands Casino, Las Vegas Sands, and Resorts World Sentosa Casino, operated by Genting Singapore before.

Chinese high-tech companies, including TikTok's owner ByteDance, are extensions of the Chinese 🇨🇳 government.
- How do I know this? Chinese "national security" laws say so!

It's a national security risk, until if it's sold to american company or given to US govt, suddenly the risks and dangers are gone. Am i missing something here?

why don’t divert it from bytedance in order to avoid tiktok being ban in US? why is it so hard for you to do so? if you really care about Americans you should have done it long time ago.

Can anybody explain why does he claim that forcing ByteDance to divest TikTok will cause TikTok to stop operating in America? Didn't TikTok always claim that they are operating independently anyway? I'm really just trying to understand what's going on. Anybody knows?

China yes men of Singapore, note that none of Google, Facebook, Instagram, or Amazon work in china. Talk about censoring/banning apps, no other country barring North Korea, comes close to China in terms of the comprehensiveness or one sidedness of it.
