SodaStream helps you make seltzer water and soda right at home. It's all the rage right now, and it's supposed to be easier on the environment and better for the consumer.

What we really want to know, though, is how the taste of SodaStream sodas compares to that of brand-name products.

So we got a bunch of our co-workers involved in a taste test comparing the SodaStream Cola against Coca-Cola.

Mean while we try to put milk inside the machine and carbonated it.

Forget the syrups that come with the soda stream. I buy lime cordial, vimto or other cordials. Just fizz your chilled water and add to the cordial works brilliant for me. Im drinking about 2 litres of lime and soda a night.

My experience with soda stream has more to do with the water I use than the actual flavoring I use. It must be reverse osmossis filtered water at the very least. Just tap water will taste terrible in it. RO filtered and it tastes like genuine store bought soda.

But I like to use it mostly to make zero sugar or low sugar flavored sodas-IE grape, orange, fruit punch, etc, because those are so hard to come by in the stores.

But this video really made me curious to try out more cola syrup varieties.

Sodastream does nothing than carbonate water, you pick the flavoring. 1 litter at a time which beats driving to buy and storing bottles of soda.

what is cool about soda stream is that you can dose your amount of sugar and dilution. I like the soda stream better. Also, it tastes fresher because the aromas just been mixed

If you want a really good cola you need to try monin cola syrup, made with pure cane sugar & no other artificial sweeteners, tastes like a coke before the high fructose corn syrup, they have many flavors to choose from, I am building a collection of their flavors, sodastream uses sugar plus artificial sweeteners also

Part of this comparison tells me that people are acustomed to drinking Coke from a can.... This would be bias. I remember Coke from the years before high fructose syrup and 'New Coke', it was far better and I think Soda Stream is close to the original Coke.

Business Insider: Do you prefer A "Sodastream cola" or B "regular CocaCola"?
Me: I prefer C "Pepsi"

It's not a fair comparison since Sodastream is lower calorie and has diet sweeteners. So it will not taste "the same".
I have a Sodastream that I used hard-core (daily) for a good 2-3 years until Sodastream messed up the Energy mix and also went to the smaller bottles of syrup.

we just bought our sodastream today and have tried the cola, Dr. Pete, lemon lime and orange, using the full recommend amount of cola flavoring the cola tastes like a flat Pepsi ...waaay to sweet, the lemon /lime tastes like Sierra Mist, the Dr. Pete was very close to a real Dr. Pepper but it had a slight hint of vanilla, the Orange was very good, after our 1st round of taste test's, i poured a 1/2 glass of the cola then added the rest of the glass with real coco cola that i had in the fridge, it definitely improved the taste of the soda stream cola

Ive had a soda stream for years. We usually pour the spritzed water in a glass with juice (and maybe gin for special occaisions). We just tried a syrup and it's pretty good. Definately tastes off brand and my husband swears it smells "chemically" though i dont smell it. It is worth a try if you already have a soda stream. But the water can be used for so much more on its own. Add spritzed water to a blender with frozen fruit and it is to die for.

Weve tried everything we can think of with ours. Sodastream still tastes like crap. If im going to drink soda, I already know its not the best for me. So dont make it different from national brands, I hate diet soda. I hate the tastes of aspertine (sp), which soda streams sodas taste like diet sodas. I dont care if its "healthier" if I want "healthier" I wouldnt drink soda. Duhhh.

Now do the Pepsi challenge, that's the real test

a problem here is he told them what each was, they were basically just trying to guess which was coke and say that was better. It made it less about them actually taste testing and more jus them guessing which was coca cola.

Up next: diabetes or just drinking water

the soda stream coca cola only has half the calories and only tastes half as good, if one neglects to double if not triple the quantity of syrup used. of course straight out the can coke is going to taste better but it is the novelty of the sodastream itself which has ensured it remained popular over the years.
