I really like how the 03 fandom is split between old and new fans, but it never dies. I love both 03 and brotherhood, but the original is more nostalgic and feels great to rewatch.
Also, animators went all out on the waterfall scene, it gives real chills

For me, the scene where the elevator is descending at the beginning is the most glorious opening scene of anything. Except maybe Star Wars, but they are both close.

1:00 to 1:10 is honestly...just, my god, what a money shot. That scene is at a full 24 FPS in the original (not a doubled 12 like most anime is). It's movie quality animation and it's truly incredible. BONES clearly had some cash left over after animating the rest of the series and decided to just dump it all in the opening right there. When I saw that scene for the first time, I came.

I know brotherhood is a masterpiece, but 2003 just hits me everywhere. I'm old for sure, but seeing this as it came out and loving it even now, how dark it really is and ends up, just feels more realistic by far than how brotherhood and the manga end.

I saw this whole series on a bootleg dvd with crappy subtitles directly from Japan in 2002 . The whole series was across 17 discs . My friend had bought it from a Japanese anime market online . It was NOT this quality, holy shit it’s beautful in HD
