Nebula is a streaming service "owned" by creators in this video i look at things that make it bad.
Many creators endorse Nebula including:
Big/little Joel
Second thought
Tom Scott
Leo vader
not just bikes
tantacrul
And many more so yes i'm calling them all out in this video

He seems to really focus on how wrong it is for Nebula to pay creators based on watchtime, seemingly unaware of how Youtube Premium pays creators.

As a consumer, I'd rather pay one small monthly fee to Nebula and get access to a bunch of good content creator stuff they can't put on YouTube, than to pay a bunch of content creators on Patreon.

When I turn the speed to 0.75 you sound normal

They always talk about how their creator owned, but that is kind of misleading. It's not a co-op.

You seemed to have done this video without much scripting or rehearsing. Try and script your thoughts so that the video and its message is coherent.

The point of nebula is to secure creators so they arent reliant on YouTube ad revenue, so if their videos are demonitised they will still make money. Plus they make more money from nebula exclusive content (Such as tldr with their daily briefings and twip)

I just got nebula because it is rather cheap and I was promised spicier content. Its literally just paid youtube, its the exact same videos and there are even less of them and a lot less diversity. It feels like even the creators aren't serious about their nebula content. I honestly feel scammed because I got an yearly sub for nothing because I trusted a youtuber

Another thing about ownership, curiosity stream is a partial owner hence the bundle and shilling of curiosity stream all the time.

The way the creators went about promoting nebula felt ingenious at most because they would say "here on nebula is all the things I can't post on YouTube" but then its literally the same content they've been posting since they started like RLL and Polymatter i agree with the rev sharing aspect and business model as well it feels like if netflix tried to be youtube and an overpromising MCN. It doesn't feel worth it to me to be honest especially with the content on the platform I've seen from my favorite creators

The way is to pirate. There are rips out there already

It’s almost like the creator of this doesn’t understand how expensive it is to host a streaming service

Delighted to find and support more Irish YT creators. I’ve found it very difficult to find any. Keep up the great work. 👍👍

You sound a little tipsy.
Good video. I use YouTube premium so I don’t see ads and hate having to keep tapping to speed past in video ads.
I’ve been wondering about nebula / curiosity stream for a while and it seems like Linus’ comments recently were actually 100% correct, even though the owner / creator or whoever it was that responded to him on Twitter that said he was wrong. Now that person just looks even worse.
They should be paying creators more. So should YouTube and twitch but I guess they never will because nowadays everyone seems to be a “creator” and I think with chat gpt and ai, everyone else will start “creating” aswell.

at that point, you could just make a stripe/patreon account

So your criticism about Nebula is that the creators on Nebula are making videos on the topics that they're known for making videos on instead of doing shit like Fortnite montages....?

i thought nebula's content was exclusively educational or scientific, but it's just the popular pop science stuff once again. does anyone have recommendations of platforms with actually good, scientific content? you know, something to not waste energy on sorting between entertainment and educational content and not be distracted by entertainment content (adhd problems). i am subscribed to dropout and it's a perfect replacement for youtube entertainment content but i still want to watch something approximately scientific once in a while but i don't know where to find it except youtube, and i get so distracted by it that i just want to delete it once and for all

I watched an interview with Nebula's founder, the guy feels like a huge genius, he is annoying.

Video hosting is extremely expensive, 50/50 may be slightly to high but it has reason. I’m not sure if you meant 70% but I don’t think that would be enough. Watch time is the standard for calculating how much money people should get, YouTube uses it. You shouldn’t give the creator money from your subscription if you only watched 1 minute of the video, it makes way more sense to do watch time. Many many many YouTube creators that don’t have full time jobs or no jobs at all, YouTube ad revinue does not always keep a creator afloat, especially the smaller to mid range craters that have under 1mil subs (assuming close numbers of views). I do think you got some things right, like the “co-owned” thing is a little misleading, but it’s marketing at its core.

Very interesting take indeed, i always have my reservations about services peddled by Youtube creators, although they need to somehow make money, they shouldnt be doing that on the backs their loyal viewers or by promoting some kind of service that has very dubious business practices.

Also a heads up, i found a video with a similar name made by a channel named "Look & Report" and the content is a total copy paste of this video
