Classic Car Radio Upgrade - Using your factory radio!

Wish you could upgrade your factory classic car radio? You can, and you don't have to hack your car up or buy a cheesy looking aftermarket stereo. Here's how!

Upgrading your vintage radio with modern internals will give you more power, higher watts, cleaner sound, iPod / iPhone connection, Bluetooth, AM / FM, and even RCA outputs for an external amp. This also allows you to use better quality modern speakers and turn your factory mono radio into a stereo radio capable of running multiple sets of speakers. We've had quite a few upgraded for us and it's awesome!

Thanks for the info! Looking to do this for my '66 Mustang now. Are there any companies you recommend?

My ‘79 Thunderbird has the factory Quad system. It sounds pretty amazing…for being now 46 years old. But I would love to somehow update it without losing the ‘Wow, Is that an 8 track?” Comments. I’m thinking about a powered sub ( Bazooka?) and of course updating speakers. Always been a fan of JL speakers, but what about the head unit? Could I keep that vintage Quad 8 track look?

Can you use aftermarket stereo speakers with a oem classic car radio?

Yes, the radio with these improvements will sound better than the factory radio from 55 plus years ago. No, it won’t sound like the stereo in your modern car! Two small speakers occupying the space of one larger “oval” speaker in the middle of the dash (even if you have another set in the middle of the rear window package tray) will not give you any real stereo separation. It will sound better than the original, give you greater option of what you want to hear, and will very likely be enough of an improvement for the way most people use and enjoy their old cars. Although it may seem obvious to some but others may need to be reminded to adjust their expectations if they are looking for the modern, full stereo sound that most new cars or professional level custom sound systems will provide; you will need to look further and spend more.

For about $600-$700 anyone can have this done. Show us how to do it ourselves.

That video sucked. He didn't do any installing at all-just a lot of talking. What a waste!!!
