Did you hear about the new parenting trend? Parents are keeping the gender of their children secret and raising "theybies". It is a blend of the words "baby" and gender neutral pronoun "they". Is raising theybies helpful to the children? Or does it cause problems when gender-neutral kids grow up in a highly gendered world? Palki Sharma tells you.

Thank God I'm born and raised in Africa, where we still have common sense.

Those parents probably think they're so smart. In reality it's just child abuse.

Giving color code to babies is foreign concept and look now it’s failing them. In India, we don’t do that. We use all colors equally for both girls and boys. In recent times who are influenced by western ways are doing the same thing. It’s a lesson for those who import western ideas, they fail in short term.

Hi, I'm from America. A lot of the states are individually addressing these issues themselves rather than deal with the Goverment .. these people have a severe mental illness and want to spread it to the whole country..

I love my simple life in India. We lived private lives, socialised, were taught not to disrespect anyone, be kind, share, be careful of wicked men, kidnappers. Now unfortunately like Britishers or Americans there is a rule _ gender, colour of your skin, your overseas quals, your experience overseas, your retirement, actually every step of your life. We have to plan our funeral! Is Asia going the same way. No rules for those who are occupiers _ how we treat the true indigenous people whose country we have adopted. Very cunning!

As someone who keeps up with politics in the US, this is devastating. This a dangerous slippery slope that starts with 'pronouns' and ends with mutilating and castrating healthy children who are too young to consent (and often regret their choices which leads to high suicide ideation) . We cannot let this happen in our country. Never.

Good way to get your kid off to a completely confusing start in life.

The word 'baby' itself is gender-neutral, why did they make up a term called 'theybies'? Letting kids pick their gender will only confuse them, they will think that if they act a certain way, they must be that gender. A girl might think she's a boy if she plays with toys marketed to boys even though she's a girl who likes a certain kind of toys. If a boy likes to wear dress or heels, he might think he's a girl even though he's a boy who just likes these things for the timebeing.

They should just let kids play with what toys they want, wanting to play with dolls dosen't mean they're a girl or playing with trucks dosen't mean they're a boy. They can do all those things without removing gender. If the child comes out as trans later in life, parents should accept it but they shouldn't confuse the child when they're young.

They should let their child pick out their clothes or toys but not gender

It's not about arming. It's about forcing a disability on a child.
There are blind people in the world, but that does not mean people should stop their kids from watching.
Hiding is never right.

Once my English teacher had said, avoid pronouns as they create ambiguity.
I totally understand that lesson now.

Indian Mothers should be made the judges of these Courts. Every dilemma, judgement, depression, nutrition, neutrality, safe place will come down to exact places .

Now I really understand why Indian parents are a certain way . Respect.

While gender disparity is n issue, 'theyby' seems more like a reaction than a response. Such children will be prone to confusion and that is not to be taken lightly. Even some adults don's understand the true meaning of gender, how can we expect babies to make such heavy choices when they are only learning about the world around them.

"Not making a choice IS A CHOICE", "The world is not Pink or Blue, it works in a shade of Grey" - is it just me or did these two phrase hit a little harder than usual?? Love it!

I can't understand why it 'gender identity' is so important in life that they COMPLETELY IGNORE EVERY OTHER ASPECT OF LIFE like family, education, progress, knowledge, mental maturity, responsibility, accountability, courage, integrity, love (non-romantic), friendships, introspection, growth, experience, empathy, patience, sacrifice, acceptance towards situations, drive to grow and improve, goals, dreams, ambitions, interests, hobbies, sports, languages, arts, literature, music, candid discussion, intellectual discourse and discussions, higher purpose, searching for the meaning of life, looking for one's own purpose in life, and many many more....

If someone wants to identify differently when they are fully mature enough and understand themselves, and are aware of what life is actually.... Then it's absolutely fine what they want to do in their life.
BUT THST DOESN'T MEAN THEY MAKE THE GENDER ITSELF THEIR ENTIRE IDENTITY, THEIR VALUE, THEIR LIFE ITSELF...! That's just sad...

It's just part of one's life, but they feel gender is everything that is to their life... Which is in a way very depressing.

At least in India, children were not raised based on pink or blue or anything else... Children naturally play with those toys they like... And many girls play outdoor games or liked boyish things and many boys used to be indoors... And all of them still are perfectly happy in their lives without overthinking about these stuff and making life overcomplicated.

Just because they are living how they like without trying to put any tags to things... And yet they are totally fine... And happy as they have learnt acceptance, patience and have higher ambitions in their life. They focus on more important stuff in life rather than such trivial things.

LGB at least make sense because going forward they have to physically be comfortable in the relationships, but the trans community is all about the superficial aspects of life and those who are following that ideology are becoming very shallow individuals, without any higher goals. If one has actual important things to do in life, they won't have that much focus and time for all these nonsense.

And the pronoun thing is hilarious... Just because someone calls me (a male) "she", it doesn't offend me... I'll do my business as usual and get on with my life.

They give so much stress and importance to the pronoun thing. If someone feels they are different gender... It's absolutely fine how they feel about their own body, .. but what's the need to make that identity a central part of their whole being!!! who they are...

They are confining the whole value they hold as a human being to being that specific gender..., !
That's so depressing.

Someone feels different.. cool... feel that way and move on... Focus on more important stuff...

And dress-code is also not an issue because shirt-pants has become a gender neutral dresscode in this day and age... So whatever gender one feels like, they can wear gender neutral wear for routine activities like work etc... and wear their preferred wear for the occassions or events that they want to attend where they want to exhibit their identity.

At least in India anyway common dresscode is shirt and jeans, , , everyone wears it. So, there is not much if an issue to create...

The trans community (hyper active ones) are just making their whole lives solely about gender and want to flaunt their gender everywhere irrespective of whether it's a formal or an informal setting.

And coming to raising children, the gender stereotypes are bad, but that doesn't mean you can't leave children to become whatever they want. You educate them, know their interests and inclinations, nurture them on the basis of self-improvement, and get them to a self-sufficient, level headed level who has sufficient maturity... And then give freedom to them when they grow up.

My mother told me not to cry when I was a boy, not because men shouldn't cry, but she told me that it's ok to cry, but crying won't solve any problems, and crying is not a solution.

That's what is needed from parents. Right guidance, life lessons, values, ethics, positive thinking, acceptance, ambition, empathy and a strong foundation for building our personality. This alone is enough to solve every depression related problems in children...

As a human our focus should be on deeper stuff... And we shouldn't get lost in the superficial things... And lose sight of the more essential aspects of our life.
