The Professor is the first and perhaps least known novel by Charlotte Bronte. While The Professor is definitely not a bad book, it does not live up to the rest of Charlotte Bronte's novels. In this review, I share my experience reading the book and some of my thoughts about it.

Nice review! I agree that there are glimmers of Charlotte's brilliancy that I would have loved to see more of in the book. I felt rather unmoved in comparison to Villette or even Jane Eyre. Even though I was glad for the happy ending, it just did not have the emotional power I would have expected from Charlotte.
It took me a while to really believe the narrative at first. I think the beginning was a struggle. I don't feel I got enough information from Crimsworth to judge him to be arrogant. He does seem accurate in his judgements towards people that we get more detail on. I think his brother was horrible to him. I find myself rooting for him pretty early on. I like that he is observant and that he outsmarted MMLL. Reuters. I am glad of his marriage to Francis, and their respectively easy life afterwards.

I’m on page 75, and had to stop because I wasn’t sure of what I was reading, Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books of all time, I think highly of Charlotte’s writing, the way she made me care for Jane, and Mr. Rochester. But here, as you say, I think is quite incomplete, and I’m Laking that feeling of warmth that Jane eyre made feel, I kind of miss her actual writing. I will continue of course, and maybe start Villete after, since I see you liked it so much, .
Any way. Good luck on you new adventure, loved the review.

I read the Professor a long time ago and I actually wanted to reread it ( may be I will do soon) to see if I still like it or will change my thoughts about it .
Amazing review 👏
