I absolutely believe it to be true that you can never read the same book twice. Who you are and where you are in your life will always influence your reading. Something you once wholly related to will leave you flat at another time. Favourites ebb and flow. What you want and need from a narrative constantly evolves and having books you love to read at different seasons of your life is such a lovely and comforting way to gauge our progress. Little Women is that book for me. Not necessarily my “favourite” anymore but one I’ve read a dozen times over since I was a teen and each time is both like coming home and going somewhere entirely new. I definitely don’t feel the same way about the characters and different elements of the story as I once did but I love seeing how my relationship with the book has changed over the years. 😊
Great video. Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts.

Jane Eyre is still my favourite classic of all time since I was a teenager and I'm in my early 50s. Luckily I've never had a Charlotte Bronte identity crisis and always been happy it's my favourite classic.

Have you read the Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde? I love his writing style and the addressing of some of the possible cough flaws cough with Jane Eyre and taking itself not so seriously

I love Charlotte Brontë ❤ her books are always ones I love to reread. Villette and Jane Eyre are two of my all time favourite books; I am about to reread Shirley; I mostly enjoyed it the first time I read it but found some parts of it a bit dry/boring; I feel like I need to give it another chance.

I feel like my favorite book changes every 3 years or so, the more I read the more I compare. I’ve settled on The Hobbit for now, but I wonder how much longer it will hold that spot 🤔

This was so delightful, 18 year old me was so invested in figuring out my favorite classic and wearing that tidbit about myself around like a badge

And this stands as a reminder to me to read more by the Brontes. I am always meaning to reread Wuthering Heights and anything else by Charlotte other than Jane Eyre, which I really enjoyed but never felt an interest in rereading. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the books.

I'll read Shirley with you victober 2023 if it helps. It sounds interesting and I liked Jane Eyre when we read it together.
