I really like that Belos never really raises his voice. It shows he is someone who doesn't need to be loud because when he speaks, everyone listens.

I really love how Philip is pure evil and not sympathetic but he's still allowed to have feelings. He misses home. He's worried about what the world will be like when he returns. He's anxious about the DOU not working out like he thinks it will. He needs his brother and yet he hates him. Letting him be pure evil while also letting him feel makes him fascinating to watch.

I think the truth about the grimwalkers really showed how evil he is. He created actual copies of his brother and then he LITERALLY threw them out like garbage

The moments he gets to be so effortlessly confident are so entertaining. "Goodbye Boiling Isles." and "Go find a hole to wither away in." Hes just. So entertaining. Even the little "can't reason with crazy" he GETS to be fun in his own way and its amazing

The little excitement in his voice talking about Luz doing glyph combinations is like a older relative complementing a child that picked up on something they struggled on. It's creepy how Belos' mannerisms always seemed warm and loving like a parent with their child, everything about him is a return to that Golden Era Disney villain that I haven't seen in years

3:08 "our family is gone because of wild magic" the twisted thing about that line is that he actually believes that. he is convinced that killing caleb was the fault of the witch for supposedly "corrupting" caleb, he can't see that it was his own close-mindedness and prejudice that led him to kill his own brother.

The season one finale is even better once you realize Belos was going easy on Luz on purpose. He spent years with Lilith and realized she was the witch who punched him. So once Luz showed up he realized Lilith would travel back in time and once he meet Luz that confirmed it since he say her use the glyphs and Lilith took Luz’s side. So he knew he couldn’t kill Luz in their little “fight” so he let her go knowing she needed to time travel. That’s why in Hollow Mind right after he knew she had already meet Philip he outright tried to kill her, cause she had already surved her purpose of giving him the light glyph.

I haven't enjoyed a villain like Belos in a long time. He feels like he stepped right out of the classic era of Disney, where villains were exactly that - villains. They weren't sympathetic, they weren't redeemable. And they aren't some surprise twist revealing "I was evil all along!". They were vile monsters, and the more your learn about them just reinforces how despicable they truly are. Right from the get go Belos treats everyone as tools to be discarded the moment they no longer serve his use. He's a manipulator, a liar, and a murderer, with a powerful presence that just sucks you in. Belos is true, honest evil, and I absolutely love it.

Luz being able to out wit Belos not once but twice just goes to show that being clever and quick with improvisational thinking is Luz's best strength.

My personal favorite detail of Belos is how much of a tone shift he is.
Every other villain is a joke or has jokes made about them. Belos really doesn't.
He's taken seriously by everyone in the show, and I love it.
He's not goofy. He's not over the top. He's just... dangerous.

The fact that in both the season Finale's Luz tricks him

I think the best thing about Belos' writing is that he's understandable, but NOT empathetic.
After learning he's from 1600's America, you understand why he hates witches, but you still know he's wrong for doing do.
He does truly heinous, evil acts time and time again, and has woven webs upon webs of lies (he even had the fandom fooled about his true intentions), but he's so GOOD at it that it's entertaining to watch.
There are villains that you love, villains that you hate, and villains that you love to hate (or vice versa). But I've NEVER seen a villain so perfectly centered on that scale like this man is; he's arguably the most well-written and nuanced character in The Owl House.

"can't reason with crazy"
It's like he knows he's evil

I hope that piece of Belos goo falling on Hunter really means we will see more of him because as much as I'm loving The Collector, I really want a proper conclusion to Philip and Caleb, and just to Philip in general. He truly is an amazing villain so he deserves to get an amazing finale.

Once you make a villain that is both badass and hateable for what they did, you know you made a great villain.

The way he said, "Goodbye, Boiling Isles"... Matthew Rhys gave me the chills. He captured Belos' sadism perfectly.

Phillip/Belos is the perfect foil for Luz. Luz is a human that loves everything about witches and magic, is extremely loyal to the people she cares about, and wears her emotions on her sleeves. Belos is a human that despises magic, is manipulative and throws away loved ones like they’re trash, and is always calm and collected. Perfect contrast between the hero and the villain.

Bit nice how the Collector turned out to have not been the "real villain." Nope, Phil was the villain and his plans were indeed not to conquer Earth, but actual, literal, and directly genocide.

Meanwhile, the Collector is rather huggable..

I still cannot get over how nice and gentle he looks. When we first see his face during his little talk with Hunter about the human realm, it's easy to forget how evil he truly is. I love that design choice.
