Got my timing belt done last week, didnt have a crows foot until tonight so I was just running it feel-torqued.
Never did one before so I was kind of scared but once I was actually doing it, it's a lot easier than it seems.
For anyone who is scared to do it, get a paint pen from autozone and before you take the old belt off mark 2 adjacent teeth on the crank, HPFP, and cam sprockets and the 1 tooth on the belt that fits between those 2 teeth. Once you get the old belt off, line it up with the new belt and mark the same teeth (triple check to make sure you aren't off by a tooth).
Then once you go to put the belt on, just line up all the markings then tension it.
Another good tip is once you have the belt off, remove the cam sprocket tool and take off the sprocket by fully removing the 3 bolts. This allows you to get the new belt onto everything except the cam sprocket, then just take it and line the markings up and slip it back onto the engine (it takes some force, but is way easier than trying to get the belt on without removing it) make sure it's fully seated and then put the 3 bolts back in.

Very smart. Good instruction. Not so scary now! I’ve got 165k miles on an original belt, and don’t want to be the guy with a destroyed cylinder head and/or motor.

I have done the timing belt on the ALH and BRM. It's crazy that you don't need to make any cam sprocket adjustments with VCDS. I am not complaining, though. Thanks for the informative video.

Looking forward to the fuel system bleeding procedure without scan tools.
Does the nut on the outside of the tensioner also tighten the tensioner stud to the block? At 23:50 the fuel pump gear wasn't quite aligned, you said you were "going to loosen this off" to get it set. What did you loosen off, the entire timing belt and tensioner or just the three bolts holding the fuel pump gear?
Is there a service manual that you're referencing for this job?
What a pain compared to a Honda.

Hopefully this saves my butt. Having a hell of a time getting the belt on. Been scared to play with the hpfp and cam pulleys.

I'm about to attempt this, and the CP3 swap at the same time. Thanks for a great video! Have you done the CP3 swap yet?

With the crankshaft and camshaft both timed. The pins go in and out eadily. The fuel pump timing is not within spec. It is about an inch off from the hole. How do you adjust it back? Thank You

Ive watched a few other videos and one said to keep the sprocket bolts loose while turning over the belt to check timing. I find this odd because wouldnt that cause the sprocket and the cam/hpfp to lose time with each other? How did you do this?

Hello everyone! I had to rebuild my engine after the timing belt got inside. Ever since then, I've been getting a P0090 code. I'm wondering if it could be related to the fuel pressure or something else stemming from the timing belt replacement. Does anyone have any advice?

How did you torque the tensioner stud? Pliers again, with some blue locktite?

Probably a good idea to change the camshaft sensor while the belt is off currently having to replace the belt just to replace the sensor

What is part number?

you seem like the type who would know. I'm looking for information on the variable valve timing on these motors. My 13 tdi is acting up and I'm not keen on paying the local small town guys to burn a hole in my wallet

What a great way to engineer a car, design it so you have to remove the whole front end to work on it. I think Germans like to torture mechanics.
