The voices of John Cooper and Jen Ledger are so amazing as always, welcome back Skillet

The lyrics in the first verse hit me hard. I've made bad decisions and I just can't leave them behind. But I am forgiven. God has forgiven me. My relationships are better. God has saved me. But sometimes those memories come back and make me beat myself up all over again. When I found this song, it hit me hard. What I've done doesn't define me. I can move on. God has used it to grow me and I'm eternally grateful. Thanks you Skillet, your music means the world to me.

Skillet - Destiny - Lyrics

[Intro: John Cooper, Jen Ledger]
Is there a place where I
Could leave the world behind
And say goodbye to every painful memory
Where darkness ain't my destiny?
This is my destiny
This is my destiny

[Verse 1: John Cooper, Jen Ledger]
Is this the life that you want?
I don't ever wanna feel this way
'Cause this is the life that you got
And no one else can ever take your place
I can't (I can't)
I won't (I won't)
Go down this road
It leaves me lost (I'm lost)
Alone (Alone)
How did I get so far from home?

[Chorus: John Cooper, Jen Ledger]
Is there a place where I
Could leave the world behind
And say goodbye to every painful memory
Where darkness ain't my destiny?
I'm running towards the light
I'm free of all the rage I thought would never leave
This darkness ain't my destiny
No, I make my destiny
No, I make my destiny
This is my destiny

[Verse 2: John Cooper, Jen Ledger]
Is this the life that you made?
It's gettin' hard to tell who I am
It's time, it's your life to change
Even if you don't think you can
I can't (I can't)
I won't (I won't)
Just lose myself
I've got so far (So far)
To go (To go)
Just show me how to get back home

[Chorus: John Cooper with Jen Ledger]
Is there a place where I
Could leave the world behind
And say goodbye to every painful memory
Where darkness ain't my destiny?
I'm running towards the light
I'm free of all the rage I thought would never leave
This darkness ain't my destiny
No, I make my destiny
No, I make my destiny

[Bridge: John Cooper, Jen Ledger]
Pushing 'til I put the pain away, get away (Get away)
Bracing for the weight but it cannot break me (Break me)
Living like I'll never be afraid, not afraid (Not afraid)
This is my destiny
Pushing 'til I put the pain away, get away (Get away)
Bracing for the weight but it cannot break me (Break me)
Living like I'll never be afraid, not afraid (Not afraid)

[Chorus: John Cooper, Jen Ledger, Both]
Is there a place where I
Could leave the world behind
And say goodbye to every painful memory (Memory)
Where darkness ain't my destiny?
I'm running towards the light
I'm free of all the rage I thought would never leave
This darkness ain't my destiny
No, I make my destiny
No, I make my destiny (I'm running towards the light)
No, I make my destiny (Leave the past behind)
No, I make my destiny
This is my destiny

Skillet,
I don't ever really make these types comments cause
I think it's kinda sappy to post them on a YouTube comment section, but...
thank you for this song. I really needed to hear it.
That's all I'll say.

10/10!
Jen's part in the pre-chorus is extra-hecking-catchy. It makes me long for more of her solo stuff.

Just the best band. I love them. Their songs are so necessary now, they give people hope. I feel like John is telling me to stop being afraid and start acting. I love Skillet.

While I like all of their music, and always will (they're my all-time favorite band), this album as a whole is probably their best and most consistently solid since "Comatose". Every song is a home run in my opinion.

Darkness will never be our identity, it will never be our personality, it will not be our action, it will be our enemy, and always our enemy, but we can overcome it, God the Father gave us the armor to defeat and defend against darkness grasps
