The hype for steamboy was so big back in the day. Second movie from the director of Akira, in production for 10 years (they were inventing the tools they were using to make it), most expensive anime movie ever at the time...and then it was just...fine. I feel like it being a UMD is probably the best way to encapsulate that timeframe of its relevence.
