Space travel is a fast-changing and lucrative industry in which private companies are playing a growing role. India and China have also launched ambitious space programs. It’s plenty for the European Space Agency to keep up with.

It's time ESA stepped out of NASA's shadow.

One of the most sincere forms of conservation is developing raw materials "not from Earth"!
- mining and refining materials where there's little-to-no life
- furthering our understanding of getting back and forth to space
- development and refinement of living and working in space

All of these are boons for the economy and conservation.

Still no word on re-useability... it would be good to hear that they are developing a new Arianne rocket that could land, re-fly, etc but maybe we are still not even at this stage either?

ESA need to cut a deal with the USA and SpaceX to launch Falcon 9's from French Guiana!
Huge benefits for all!
USA gets a better launch site and Europe gets to focus on making crew/cargo capsules that get launched for them on Falcon 9's...
ESA have their own heavy lift rockets to handle the space stations etc
Better idea than wasting money on developing their own reuseable orbital boosters.

The ESA Susie design is a bit iffy....
An oversized space capsule that combines crew and cargo into one ship, so is too heavy to parachute, therefore it now lands propulsively in an inefficient way....
I think ESA only proposed it to join the propulsive landing cool kids club! :D
Not a use case for propulsive landing really.

Very good news for Europe. Nice. Very happy to pay taxes for this :)

Exploration is a fine adventure but how about some commercial use of the space? still no own GeoPositionSystem, only necessary communications, no mining ambition... knowing things is nice but affording things is even nicer. And how do you get into competitiveness against privat companies if youre just looking into the stars? Taxpayermoney will be thrown against SpaceX Businessmodel.
So far so disappointing.

In the near future if you cannot lift over a hundred ton payload to orbit, you won’t even be in the game.
