Rainy Night in Georgia was written by the legend Tony Joe White in 1962 and popularized by R&B artist, the immortal Brook Benton RIP in 1970. It reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100, number two on the Adult Contemporary chart, and number one on the Billboard Best Selling Soul Single.

Rainy Night in Georgia

Hoverin' by my suitcase, tryin' to find a warm place to spend the night
Heavy rain fallin', seems I hear your voice callin' "It's all right."
A rainy night in Georgia, a rainy night in Georgia
It seems like it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world
Neon signs a-flashin', taxi cabs and buses passin' through the night
A distant moanin' of a train seems to play a sad refrain to the night
A rainy night in Georgia, such a rainy night in Georgia
Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world
How many times I wondered
It still comes out the same
No matter how you look at it or think of it
It's life and you just got to play the game
[Instrumental Interlude]
I find me a place in a box car, so I take my guitar to pass some time
Late at night when it's hard to rest I hold your picture to my chest and I feel fine
But it's a rainy night in Georgia, baby, it's a rainy night in Georgia I
Feel it's rainin' all over the world, kinda lonely now And it's rainin' all over the world
Oh, have you ever been lonely, people?
And you feel that it was rainin' all over this man's world
You're talking 'bout rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin',
Rainin', rainin' rainin', rainin', rainin'

As he finds shelter in a box car from the pouring Georgia rain, he finds a moment of peace and comfort with his guitar. All that's needed is a warm blanket and a hot meal. A soul-soothing masterpiece from the great Tony Joe White. Brook sings it well.

1970 listening to this song, one of my Daddy's favorite. I was 13, a Daddy's girl and he left me because Uncle Sam sent him to Vietnam, twice. 1994, he left me for good from effects of agent orange. I loved hearing my Daddy sing and whistle. When I play this, I close my eyes and I still hear my Daddy singing. George Benton, Sam Cooke, O.C. Smith and others.

They just played this song on the weather channel, so I had to come here to hear the whole song. 70's had some of the best music.

Even hearing this as a small child, the imagery of the rainy night in a place called Georgia, which I knew was far away down south, gave me such a warm and cozy feeling that I wished I was there myself.

* Hello Glenn! Absolutely love hearing Brook Benton singing this one! Have you also heard Conway Twitty & Sam Moore performing Rainy Night in Georgia? Another great tribute as well, I love how that duo play off each other through the song, laughing and gesturing to each other... and they also mention Brook Benton by name towards the end. If you or anyone else is interested in the video, simply search ' Conway Twitty - Rainy Night In Georgia ft. Sam Moore ' here on YouTube : )
I hope you're doing great Glenn! You did a fantastic job on the video above and I'm glad you picked the Benton version for this too : ) A warm voice for a charming song : )
A wonderful weekend to you my friend!
