I have neighbors who when I first told I was from the city, gave me strange looks but once they figured out that there isn't much I couldn't do in a house, and being a dte tree trimmer, I became their go to guy to fix things. My best friend is from Detroit and she is amazing. She was self-sufficient at 18 and is willing to take on any project regardless of her own knowledge. She learns on the fly and just does it. I guess that's one of the things I love about her the most because that's exactly how I approached life. I'm always astounded by people that just don't know it can't do things. Learn! Figure it out!

Detroit is full of good people, having only traveled through a few times I feel so fortunate that the locals I met were friendly and full of joy. When I tell people unironically that Detroit is actually an amazing place they give me weird looks, I wouldn't have believed myself until I visited. Much love.

I lived in a small urban trailer park in SC with a lot of other impoverished folks. What we broke, we fixed. Dilapidated chain link fences, trees assigned for climbing by the neighborhood kids and Barefooted summers on the barely there asphalt was what we knew. Management didn’t care and just used the location as a trap hood. 😂 best years of my childhood.

As a Flint resident I loved going to Detroit in my youth, it felt like my dream city for opportunities at following the rich legacy of black American musical traditions.

This reminds me of how I see Indiana, specifically the southern part, you go around and see similar faces everywhere in the area, you know the people who frequent the same places like laundry mat, grocery store, nail salon, and etc. But overall most of the people are nice and kind- if your car breaks down by the road there will be multiple people stopping to help you out, make sure you are okay, check your car with whatever knowledge they have and try to help you out. That's why I love being from here even if people always put Indy down. Most people are just Midwestern kind
