Rocksmith can use any real electric guitar. And yes, it teaches you how to play, the sounds you hear are the really from the guitar, not note samples like Guitar Hero. It also acts as an amp with loads of effect pedals, video games especially designed to improve your skills and you can also learn bass guitar.

You can buy Rocksmith on its own or with a guitar - Usually an Epiphone Les Paul junior, but I think there are packages with other guitars available.

I think you're better off going to a music store and trying one out for yourself. Just have to be frank about not knowing how to play or they'll just make you feel embarrassed when they ask you to test play it.

Your experiences of being embarrassed are nothing to do with me. Your embarrassment is probably more to do with being a spiteful, slimy, mealy mouthed kid than any abilities you might not have. I've been able to play since I left school in the seventies, and if anyone working in my store ever deliberately made any customer embarrassed, he would be straight down the road. I just use Rocksmith to improve my playing and because it's great fun.

Well, I think you misunderstood the point of my reply which wasn't at all intended as rude. It wasn't even about you, but about "you" as in someone in general who considers using rocksmith as a starter. Second, as a reply to that rash judgement of yours about my character. That doesn't really open up for knowledge exchange. And in the context of my explanation about what I meant it backfired on yourself.
