Experience has taught me to always bring extra blades...

Flying in a thin Martian atmosphere is no joke. The air is so thin that a wing has to travel at ludicrous speeds to generate any lift, but thanks to that same thin air, there is little air resistance, so high speeds are achievable. I'm actually a little surprised they got a rotating airfoil to work as helicopters aren't known for their high altitude tolerances.

Glad to see it being attempted. Truly hope this copter works!

The kid in me is wondering, "could the rover shoot down the helicopter with it's laser"? ;-)

I'm so excited for the Mars 2020 rover. Just another reminder that we're living in the future.

such a cool tech demo, the potential for it to provide survey images for route planning to improve the science gathering potential of the rover is enormous.

hardly a better option for getting high resolution images for route planning short of getting the NRO to set up a mars program

When I saw the movie "The Red Planet" (2000) I, as many others, asked: why NASA doesn't develop something like AMEE's copter? Well, there you are after 18 years plus 2 or a bit more before we see it for real. Great NASA, way to go!

thank you guys, thats a good way of spending money for humanity

As an aerospace engineer who has studied Martian aviation considerations, I was extremely doubtful that a successful Mars helicopter could ever be practically engineered.. it looks like I was wrong.. I admire and respect the awesome achievements of the Mars helicopter team. As the Aussies would say; "You Beaut !!" ;)

Would love to see Mars 2020 launch on a Falcon Heavy
btw the best part of naming the martian rover '2020' NASA can't delay it 😂😂

I approve NASA! this would be a good step at exploring more of mars! maybe even the polar caps!

Whole world should provide money to NASA for human development...at least 100 billion $ and see wat NASA can do .

self righting mechanism? It'll need to be able to get up off it's side when it falls over. It will fall over. Some Quadcopters have the ability to flip themselves back over when using something called 'turtle mode'. Can you see a way of doing something like that with this design?
