Rock Star Interviews That Went Terribly Wrong

John Lennon comparing The Beatles to Jesus was far from the most outrageous thing the Fab Four ever said. From insulting entire countries to bands breaking up right before our eyes, these are rock star interviews that hit all the wrong notes.

Lennon never said HE thought The Beatles were bigger than Jesus. If you hear the WHOLE complete interview, he said that everyone was taking them way to seriously, and it was even worse in their home country. The PEOPLE were making them more popular than Jesus, and he thought it was ridiculous, cause we are just four lads playing music in a band, period that's it. And really everything he said was true, the media were just trying to find something to hate them. AND society DID make them more popular at that time.

When you see that Iggy Pop interview you immediately think to yourself "that's a guy with jet-lag that was tricked by his label" 😅

Re the KISS interview: Ace was really nervous and decided to drink a lot before the show. I personally thought he did the best he could. Yes, he was out of Gene and Paul's control, but Tom Snyder had s lot of fun. Probably Tom's best TV interview. If you watch it all the way through, everybody is busting a gut laughing. Even Gene.

Iggy Pop’s antics from his early days are legendary. In reality, he’s a wonderful witty and intelligent man. Iggy’s a truly great talent.

Iggy's bit was priceless. They had no idea how to handle him and he went off and trolled them epically for it. He at least had some control of himself then; pre mid 70's Iggy woulda tore the studio up lol. The lipsinking bits were pure gold too because you could tell he was embarrassed and disgusted by it. Old Grey Whistle Test it wasn't; his live version of I'm Bored on there in '79 was the best version of that song. Thankfully his modern interviews are excellent because interviewers understand him now they sure didn't back then.

Oh please, the Iggy Pop thing was hilarious. That was half the fun of Countdown, you never knew what you were going to get lol. Molly Meldrum himself had to be replaced as the host part way through one episode.

Iggy's stage persona is an unpredictable force of nature when he's switched "ON" behind the scenes he is a mellow nice guy who REALLY LOVES HIS FAMILY..he is Very protective of his Mom and Dad. Henry Rollins does a great vid.. Rollins vs. Iggy Pop the "live version."

KISS will always be the band that marked the end of the ascension of traditional rock.

Are we just ignoring that the woman Bill Grundy hit on is the legendary Siouxsie?

I understand that it can be frustrating to not hear most of the audio from the interviews, but it's probably because of copyright laws

In 1981 police in Austin, Texas forced a Stones fan to listen to Kiss albums until he finally
cracked and confessed to a triple homicide. His lawyers later got the conviction overturn-
ed on grounds of “Forced confession by means of Cruel and Unusual Punishment.” Yeah!

Lennon also compares himself to Jesus in the line from his song: "The way things are going, they're gonna crucify me."

"America is a horrible place." The truth hurts to many Sir Paul.

I was hoping to watch the actual interviews as opposed to a voice over telling me what to think of what happened.

I wonder if Grunge is aware of the even more disastrous interview Ian ''Molly'' Meldrum had with Prince (now King) Charles on Countdown. That should be included in another list of interviews that went terribly wrong.
