Hello Den, this tutorial is a great argument for requiring all line manufacturers to state how their particular line should be loaded onto a fixed spool reel! Best wishes, Chris

Thanks Den, great video. I do much the same, but I just put a pencil through the spool and get the wife to hold it. However, ear protection is advised. 😊

Hi Den, I have been thinking of moving from the Uk . 🤔 mostly to give my sons a better life as the uk is broken. I wondered if you might consider doing a pros and cons presentation on moving to Oz . All my family are polite, easy going people who don’t mind hard work. We are looking to find a country that looks after its own.

Interesting demonstration there, and I liked what you had to say about the correct way to load the line may well vary from different manufacturers. I do have one question though, I have4 a new 4000 series reel, how much main line would you put on it? Would you just put one of those 100m spools of line on and pack it till it was close to the spool lip, or would you allow more? Thanks for taking the time out to make the videos, very much appreciate the help and sound advice.

The line should be coming off of the filler spool in the same direction that it is being wound on to the reel spool, which is the best way to prevent line twist. With a baitcasting reel, you can use the pencil method without line twist becoming a problem. I worked in the retail fishing industry for over 15 years and I've put line on hundreds, if not thousands, of reels over the years, some by hand and some with the electris line-winding machines. My time on the water is too precious to be fighting with line twist.

I have bought a line spooler gadget and then forget where I had put it? This gismo allowed line off the spool with whatever tension you set it at? It came off the spool similar to the water method? I have taken line to the reel mainly in water and have to be fair got a twist now and then but not always? However, my last trip I used your walk the line method to get a twist out of it from your great vid and it worked a treat my mates wondered where I was going with my line down the lakeside ;)

Fascinating topic Dem, I used to use a pencil through the middle and get the wife to hold either side of the pencil, works just as well in a vice, admittedly not everyone has a wife or a vice!

Den ...most of the popular match anglers like Andy May etc just dump the spool in a bucket of warm water( or cold water) and just load it from the bucket. I do your method - never fails provided the line comes off the top of the spool directly towards the reel. They.ll be loadsa posts on this one.😂

I have copied every single video on YouTube on spooling my reels and they always look like a pile of spaghetti. Heart surgery is easier. So now I just get my local shop to do it for me..

I just throw the line in a bucket of water and spool it on.

Well done Den, I personally use the wife method... she under sufferance.... while we are at it I must compliment you on your pristine shed/garage, it gets 10 out of 10 for tidiness, mine is an absolute jumble, BUT I know where everything is and I churn stuff out all the time 😂😂😂

Thanks Den great vid, my way is normally the English way. Recently I got some other type of line were I’d have some line twist. Solved via one of your methods. But apparently it varies per line type/ manufacturer.

I've always poked a pen or pencil through the middle of the line spool and got someone to hold it, then wind the line on. But I'll be using the glass trick if I'm on my lonesome. Thanks.
