Hello, welcome to TheTrevTutor. I'm here to help you learn your college courses in an easy, efficient manner. If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe and follow me for updates. If you have any questions, leave them below. I try to answer as many questions as possible. If something isn't quite clear or needs more explanation, I can easily make additional videos to satisfy your need for knowledge and understanding.

Today we discuss truth tables, and give the truth tables for all of our basic operators.

So I watched the first few videos of this playlist during the break and I just had my first class of discrete math yesterday and I don't know how I would have kept up had I not found your videos!

Trev, thank you! I'm using your videos in substitute of a Discrete Math class (I'm a Freshman in High School next year, and I won't get to take Discrete for a while, but I need it.) Your videos are amazing, and I'll probably find myself watching other ones. :D

Hey man great job with these videos, I'm currently previewing discrete math before the winter term so this is really helpful. Other lecture slides I found online were not good enough in terms of detailed explanation. Keep it up!

for the conditional,
if the teacher gives an assignment and i do it that's fine
if he doesn't and i do it that's fine also
if he doesn't and i don't do it that's fine
only it's false if he gives an assignment and i don't
so Q is the teacher gives an assignment
and p is me doing it
this example might help
and your explanation is awesome!

Computer Science student here.. I read XOR as exclusive OR... meaning only be one or the other can be true. They cannot both be true. This might help your explanation..

This is amazing thanks for explaining it

there is a good explanation of the conditional by taking example of the election candidate who makes promises to make things if he gets elected.
if he is not elected we can't say that he lied if his projects were not made. (from prof serna video lecture)

> The perfect explanation for P -> Q with the example statement and hoping that this might help you as i figure it out guys:

"If it rains then i'll carry an umbrella."

If P = 1 and Q = 1 the statement will be
"If it rains then i'll carry an umbrella."
Which is intuitively True! If it rains of course you want an umbrella.

If P = 1 and Q = 0 the statement will be
"If it rains then i'll not carry an umbrella."
Which is False! Because imagine in real life you are expecting an umbrella if it rains.

If P = 0 and Q = 1 the statement will be
"If it doesn't rain i'll carry an umbrella."
Which is True! Why? Its because even if it doesn't rain you can still use umbrella in protecting yourself in the sun right? So imagine yourself your going somewhere of course do be sure you want to have an umbrella with you because you can still use it not only in the rain but also to the sun so basically its a true statement.

If P = 0 and Q = 0 the statement will be:
"If it doesn't rain, i'll not carry an umbrella."
Well this is a bit tricky why it turns out to be True, but figuring it out, people can have different choices, they can bring an umbrella with them without rain to protect the sun or they just check the fact that it is not raining so why do they have to bring an umbrella that is why its considered as True!

Hope this enlighten you guys. And Trev .. your videos are awesome. I'm currently learning Mathematics from the start to refresh everything and have solid foundation about Mathematics and your not only helping me with these kind of videos but also other people. Hoping for your many videos to come! Godbless!

If you have question about what I've said comment below and thumbs up so people can know. :)

Hey, Sir.. DO u have any worksheet that we can practice or like a pdf of samples with solutions? If you don't would you please make one and make it available to everyone online.

In my discrete math class the truth tables start with false and end with True....so p and q would be written 0 0, 0, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1. Why is this?
