Interim Budget 2019

The interim budget was presented by Piyush Goyal. The sanctity of the interim budget is not the same as that of a regular budget since it relies heavily on the same political party coming back to power with the same or stronger mandate. Instead, it is a form of political messaging that shows how the government plans to earn money and what it intends to spend money on and what fiscal deficit it targets to keep.
The current government has understood the need to have a more targeted and inclusive approach, which is highlighted in the interim budget. The key ideas in this budget are:
1. Increasing taxable income limit from Rs. 2.5 Lakhs to Rs. 5 Lakhs
2. Empowering young people to save and spend more
3. Allowing assessees toto choose how to invest capital gains
4. Removing tax on notional rent
5. Putting money in the hands of small farmers
6. Presenting a 10-point plan for better governance with minimal government
7. Setting fiscal deficit expectations
The interim budget is not just about the fiscal deficit and how the government will manage its finances. It is a message about the future, the government’s vision, and an initiative to empower the middle class and young Indians.
