About 40 years ago my children were in their 5 to 7 year range, we bought a half dozen day old chicks. They were Rhode Island reds and we were surprised to find one ended up being a Rooster. We only wanted to get eggs, We did not intend to raise any more chickens, but kept him around anyway. He grew to be king of the ranch serving the five hens with vigor. he was an exceptionally large chicken, more turkey size than chickens size. he would pick fights with my full grown German shepherds, and any unsuspecting human. His spurs grew to about 7 inches long before we started filing the points flat because he was really damaging the hens . Even so Neighbor kids from all around knew better than to attempt retrieving a lost ball. More than once I’d come home and find a kid treed in our backyard with a rooster stomping around the tree trunk, begging for a fight. As he got older, he started to limp a lot because of arthritis. In fact, he took to laying on his back with his feet up in the air, apparently to alleviate some of the pain. The first time I saw this, I thought to myself a chicken head, kick the bucket, and went out to, bury him. But as I got close to him, he looked up at me and as if to say, “what you looking at?” He lived several more years reaching the ripe old age of 10. He was a beautiful bird. I never took him to the fair, but he sure would’ve won every prize on the planet.

Thanks for sharing your videos. I’ve decided to look for some chicks tomorrow.

I never expected to hear the sentence, "Is he sexy?" when referring to a rooster 🤣🤣

I was today years old when I learned that chicken can lay eggs without mating. Lol

I thought eggs in the supermarket are the unincubated one.

What is inserted into the chicken to fertilize her and where is she getting inserted at? All those words with no pictures are so confusing…

Way off topic. You seem very knowledgeable about chickens. I’ve a question I can not find or get a definitive answer. Do hens that are in factory egg production shoulder to shoulder do the egg call after laying?

Between 5 & 8 eggs? My hens successfully hatch out 15 at a time lol

Very interesting! I had no idea that the Rooster put so much work into wooing the hen and that hens evaluate whether to mate with a Rooster based on how much he dotes on her. That is almost human behavior! I was wondering why a hen would eject the sperm. Is it because she's not healthy enough to produce full-term healthy chicks, or is there some other reason?

It never looks to me that the rooster is under enough to hit the target.
