my dad was a yellow cabbie in the late 70s and 80s. I feel connected to him when I hear this

"babe stop, youre not a 70s film noir detective, stop speaking in metaphors and see a therapist!"
"I stared back at her with a gaze as cold as the night outside, clawing at the heat from our apartment like a greedy rat, living from day to day"
"what the fuck are you talking about?!"

I drove a cab in the 80s to put myself through college. Out for 12-26 hours. Insane the things I saw. Changed me. Made me quit drinking, become a writer.

Sitting on my porch in the hot Florida night with a glass of whiskey and a cigarette listening to this, life is good

The peace and the nostalgia that brings this music is inexplicably beautiful.

Travis Bickle in 2023: "You know, it's somethin' else, lookin' out at this city now. Back in the day, in the gritty streets of the '70s, this place had a pulse, a rhythm. You could feel the tension in the air, like a coiled spring just waitin' to snap.

I used to cruise these same streets, my taxi's wheels rollin' over the asphalt, takin' me to places where the neon lights flickered like promises. People, they had this edge to 'em, a rawness that told you they were fightin' to survive. It was a city of contradictions, beauty and decay intertwined in a dance that played out every night.

Now, though, it's like a different world. The pulse, it's faded. The neon's still there, but it ain't got that same fire. Everyone's starin' at screens, lost in their own little digital worlds. The streets are cleaner, but they've lost their soul. People don't talk no more, they just text and swipe, too afraid to look each other in the eye.

The city's lost its character, its authenticity. It's become sanitized, homogenized. The filth and the grime, it's been replaced by sterile buildings and gentrified neighborhoods. It's like they've taken a scrub brush to the soul of this place, tryin' to polish it up, make it presentable for the suits and the tourists.

But you know, deep down, I can't help but think maybe I'm just seein' it through my own messed-up lens. Maybe the city's always been changin', evolvin'. Maybe this is just the way of things. Hell, maybe I'm the one who's stuck in the past, clingin' to a version of reality that was never gonna last.

But one thing's for sure, in this sea of change, one thing remains the same - the loneliness. That ain't never gonna change. No matter how many fancy gadgets they come up with, no matter how many shiny buildings they erect, people are still gonna be searchin' for a connection, for somethin' real.

As for me, I'll keep drivin' these streets, watchin' as the world keeps spinnin' and changin'. Maybe one day, I'll find my own place in this new reality, a way to connect, to make some sense of it all. Until then, I'll just keep rollin', a lone sentinel in the night, tryin' to find my own path in this ever-shifting landscape.

I've played LA Noir previously and watched this movie in my late teens. This is the playlist I've been looking for a long time. Obviously, hit right in the feels. Takes me back to when times we're a lot simpler. To all the doomers out there, no matter how permanent your " doom " is, may you get out of your rut and live life again . Cheers!!.

- Even reading the script and quotes are enough to make you realize how brilliant Taxi Driver is.
- And when you add the actors themselves, De Niro, Foster, Shepherd...
-Everything that could be said about it has been said and yet there's more, the more different people watch it.
- Everyone has something to add, to comment.

The looped video of late nite old NYC cityscape during the summer, whilst having this ominous jazz soundtrack playing is mesmerizing. Brings back memories of childhood in the early 80s., which apparently the 2 decades have frozen in time and look exactly alike.

It’s not often that we actually get to live the life that we want right now, and that’s alright. I want everybody reading this to know y’all will achieve your highest of dreams.

Don’t forget that it’s normal to escape. I reward myself by listening to this without any distractions whatsoever. It takes me back to a time when the world was perfect. A time when the skies were actually blue, the grass was green, and the people around your were an absolute blast and joy to be around. A time where we didn’t want to be separated from our friends. A time where there are no ill-intentions from those around you. We misjudge how blessed we were as kids. Thank you for this wonderful playlist.
