Taxi Driver - Thank god for the rain/I Still Can't Sleep (+ AMBIENT SOUNDS)

New 30 minute version with more sounds, better ambiance and Travis' voice.

I always wanted to combine Bernard Herrmann score with some ambient sounds such as rain or city sounds to recreate the unique ambience of the movie.

Enjoy it !

I am not planning on earning money with this, just a fan who wants to share his love of an incredible movie :-)

Hi everyone, I just wanted to thank all of you for sharing your stories and emotions while listening to this. It's interesting to see that we all felt like Travis at some point or even for the rest of our life. The struggle of this marginalized man is actually the struggle of a quiet majority. Life is damn tough. For those currently going through hard times, I wish you the best. Take care of yourselves :-)

Loneliness has followed me my whole life, everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores, everywhere. There's no escape. I'm God's lonely man.

I think everyone can relate to Travis in many ways. A lot of people, especially in this day and age, have to work long hours, either to support themselves or work just to focus their minds on something else, in this case, Travis did it to deal with Insomnia. This movie really did a great job on relating to the average human being, which is why I think this movie will hold up for many generations to come.

Going on these Taxi Driver videos and seeing the comments. Makes me realize how many people are just like me.

Maybe one day we can all meet at a diner to relate and connect with our melancholy. Pain is the glue that brings everything together

I still long for the love of Betsy. Sadly Wizard passed away a few years ago. RIP my friend. I could ALWAYS count on you for good advice.

I love how the iconic crescendo in this piece sounds like a car itself. Brilliant.

It's raining heavily where i'm at right now, it's midnight, and i'm looking through my window down at the city, everyone's inside, except a couple bums and the odd patrol cop, i keep thinking about better days, while i can't focus on getting any work done as this tune plays in my head...

its crazy how we live in the most connected age and people still relate to a movie that was released in the late 70s. really shows how it doesn't matter how much of a connected society we become, its all the same

not gonna lie, this would be a dope 11 hour video. I still appreciate every bit of the 34 minutes though, its gotten to me. As the end of the year approaches, I can't help but reflect on all that I've overcome throughout. The lesson I learned and would like to share with whoever stumbles across this is; Whatever you feel you need, you already have it. There are things we have this idea about having "control" of, but we can only control what we can. Go with flow, and let everything be organic.

This OST sounds very much like you're a spectator. Just observing the life around you. Just like a Taxi Driver.

I just I was just a kid growing up in Brooklyn back in the day when this movie was made I drove the same Taxi and I seen all the bad things in the night time because I drove from 6 p.m. until the morning. Great movie grey soundtrack.

It's great that a composer like Bernard Herrmann was rediscovered by the new directors after Hollywood had written him off as "old fashioned". Directors like Scorcese, DePalma, and Truffaut knew otherwise. Being his final score he ended his illustrious career with a great one. It's hard to imagine the film with any another score. It adds another layer to the characters and the situation and compliments the images and not just providing a manipulative music track. Some scores overwhelm the images they are supporting but Bernard Herrmann creates a musical undercurrent of menace. When I had my IPod I created a Bernard Herrmann playlist and would listen to it when I was in a dull and mundane environment and it made everything more sinister and cinematic.

I liked the night, the silence, the solitude, it brings me peace, during the day I plug my ears and sleep a little while waiting for the night to come again

Listened to this on our first rain here in Oregon during the wildfires. Went to bed smelling smoke, but fell asleep to the sound of thunder and rain. I woke up to no smoke, people standing outside breathing in the fresh air. Truly a beautiful day.

De Niro, at the pinnacle of human loneliness, or
at the bottom of human loneliness
He gave a great performance that dramatically expressed his life alone, neglected in society.
His acting was so outstanding that many audiences could empathize with him deeply.

One of the most evocative things about this film is the incredible score. I grew up with bad asthma, and to me, this music is the perfect distillation of what it feels like to be drowning in your own lungs- big, labored, painful breaths in, quick but muted exhale followed by dreamlike moments where you're not really trying to breath until you remember that you don't have a choice and start over. It makes the film sound like it takes place in a city that is in hospice- listening to lungs on the verge of giving out, or giving up.

So of course while I'm stuck at work at 3am I'm listening to it on loop drinking coffee and staring dead-eyed out the window. Thanks!
