Philippines Military Chief Says Escaped Ramming Attack Unhurt, China Blames 'Collision' On Manila

Philippine Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Romeo Brawner said he was onboard a vessel that was both sprayed with a water cannon and rammed by China. Videos released by the Philippine Coast Guard showed Chinese ships blasting water cannons at Philippine boats in the South China Sea on December 9 and 10. The incident took place during two separate resupply missions to fishermen at Scarborough Shoal and a tiny garrison at Second Thomas Shoal. There was also a collision between Philippine and Chinese boats at Second Thomas Shoal, where a handful of Filipino troops are stationed on a grounded warship. However, China said it had lodged solemn representations with the Philippines after a Philippine vessel “collided with the Chinese maritime police vessels.”

Use of water cannons just shows China fears the mutual defense treaty between the US and the Philippines to be called upon. As long as water cannons are used and no deaths on the Philippines side, China can continue to play this "childish" behavior.
