Beijing to test 20 million residents for COVID-19 as lockdown jitters grow

China is shifting its focus from Shanghai to Beijing amid rising COVID-19 infections in the capital. Testing will be expanded to some 20 million residents. People have been rushing to stock up on food and other essential supplies as concerns grow that the capital could be placed under a strict lockdown like Shanghai, where 25 million people have endured a city-wide lockdown for a month. The financial hub has detected nearly 17,000 new cases.
