SpaceX Massive Upgrade On Starship Heat Shield Change Everything...
Can you believe it?!
After much waiting, Ship 30 has officially appeared with its new armor, ready for the upcoming challenges.
Not only Starship, but the Polaris Dawn astronauts have also just undergone a test with their armor, the EVA suit. Spacewalk, here we come!
And finally, after a long crisis, Astra Space went private. Will this help them come back?
Let’s kick off the new week by finding out the answers to these burning questions on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.
Finally Happened! SpaceX Starship 30 Heat Tiles FIXED, Ready for Firing...
Flight 5 is getting closer, which means preparations will be continuously ramped up. Recently, on July 15, B12 completed the static fire test. In the coming days, it will complete the final installation before testing Wet Dress Rehearsal with the S30.
So how about the S30 now?
Well, this is what many people have been eagerly anticipating! After more than two months since its last roll in mid-May, the S30 has finally shown its first signs of movement.
The excitement began building on July 19, when an image revealed the removal of the scaffolding used to install the heat shield. Soon after, the lifting jigs were transported to the Production Site, ready for action. To top it off, the Ship Transport stand, previously used for S26, arrived at Mega Bay 2.
Finally Happened! SpaceX Starship 30 Heat Tiles FIXED, Ready for Firing...
Attention, everyone! The long-awaited star, S30, has made its grand entrance. On the afternoon of July 20, it majestically rolled out of High Bay and into Megabay 2. Just a few hours later, it was elevated onto the Transport Stand. By July 21, it was swiftly transported to the Massey test site.
This move is significant—it paves the way for SpaceX's static fire test of the S30. Excitingly, this will be the first time an active prototype is tested using the new flame trench system. Remember, just a few months ago, the S30 was the last prototype to undergo static fire testing on the old test stand pad B.
This test will serve two critical purposes. First, it will allow SpaceX to evaluate the new engine configuration, as they recently replaced two Vacuum engines on the S30. Second, it will test the reliability of the newly installed heat shield system. The static fire test is the ultimate way to assess the heat shield's capabilities.
As of this update, there is no scheduled road closure for the S30 test. However, I believe it will happen soon, likely within this week, as we approach the end of July. Speeding up is essential because the progress of the S30 needs to align with the progress of B11.

To be resolved, thank you.

Finally happened! It apparently finally happens every single episode

The new insulation layer will likely also provide better vibration absorption padding reducing the chance of tile loss.

Maybe they should use graphine for the heat shield melting point for grahine is 3600c apparently.

Yeah, uh, you used the wrong thumbnail image on your TPS report. Do you want me to resend the memo on that?

I would like some 10km lsunch and return for catch by both superheavy and starship. That way they get some tests catching.

Can a slightly curved surface of the tiles reduce stress from the gaps?

Anybody out there with Space X Engineering contacts.
Present the idea of coolant lines in the Tiles Epoxy. Cool it same way as the Raptors.
That would actually Cut Weight.
Hollow Aluminum tubing verses Epoxy weight.

What if the Star ship had tiles on the whole of the ship and it rotated going through reentry so that the tiles would be both heating and cooling as it went through the reentry process, like a giant rotisserie bird. As I Imagean the tiles in the forward position must take on more heat than those that are at an angle that would be deflecting more of the heat. I realize this would add some more weight, but would it not be worth it, to have a built-in redundancy and increase the total safety of the rocket ship.

Bro you're late, the s30 has already done the static fire test

Tile loss and ship burn through will persist. The Shuttle Program couldn't solve it and technology has not advanced significantly since then. Re-entry is very violent and no long-term solution is currently known.
