Successfully cutting the cord with an antenna takes some research online, but some websites can lead you in the wrong direction. In this video, I list a few websites that should be avoided when cutting the cord with an antenna.

UPDATE - another good website I forgot to mention is the FCC DTV reception maps:

I had basic cable and I could never find some thing worthy of the hundred dollars a month to watch. When it’s free, there’s always something good on.

Thanks for putting the correct context on this easily misunderstood process, Tyler.

Absolutely correct. I tried Antenna web, it said none was available but when I scanned my TV, it 76 channels! Now some are Spanish or selling channels but after talking tose out I still had 52!

I have two indoor antennas, one from Channel Master and one from Antennas Direct. Happy with both of them. 👍👌😃

Honestly, I can't recall which website I used almost 7 years ago. The antenna I went with was listed as #2 in my area and you (Tyler) highly recommended the antenna (it was a YouTube review on a rca outside antenna) & went to Walmart. Found it for $50, followed your videos to install it & covered all videos for best signel.

Thanks, Antenna Man! I followed your advice installing two outdoor Winegard antennae in my attic. I had to use two pointed NE and SW with twin cell tower filters to grab the best stations 100+ miles away in my rural area without ghosting. They've worked seamlessly for 5 years thanks thanks to your advice. Clear, HD OTA reception.

I just like your videos. They're just cool to watch. You got content that I'm kind of familiar with. Thank you.

A useful rule when looking at reviews of antennas is: I the range claim is over about 80 miles, the review is not accurate and the antenna is likely to be junk.
Also: There is no such thing as an "HD antenna". A set of rabbit ears from the 1970s will pick up HD signals just fine. It is the TV or tuner that does the decoding and that is where the smarts are.

Antenna Man - the wife and I decided to cut the cord. Right now I'm streaming Frndly and we're using rabbit ears on several TV's. Interestingly, you briefly showed a map of where I live on this clip. We live right outside of the little town of Bessemer - southwest of New Castle, PA. We had a huge Antenna that we had installed over 25 years ago that we had removed when we had a new roof installed last fall. We also had Direct TV which we decided to get rid of several years back. More recently, we suscribed to our local Comcast cable to allow my daughter and wife to more effectively stream over the internet during Covid as both are educators. The fellas that installed it did an excellent job with the wiring and even came back to correct the wiring for the big outdoor Antenna which we still had up. We decided to cut the cable cord as mentioned at the beginning of this comment since prices just kept going up and up! And I had the Amish fellas that did the roof save the wiring which I feel is in very good condition. They wrapped it up and tucked it in - up in the northwest corner of our second story. I say all of this to find out what is a solid smaller Antenna that I could install up in that northwest corner of the house. We just need to point it toward Youngstown, OH to get the local networks and perhaps a few more channels. If need be, I can subscribe to your website but really all I need is a reputable small Antenna brand recommendation. Since you're in PA, would you know or could you recommend someone to help install it. I just turned 65 and climbing up on ladders to install antennas might be a little more than I care to tackle.

Tyler's recommendation for the Range Xperts XPS-1500 was spot on. I have always lived about 60 miles from the nearest TV stations, and at half the size, it beats out 10' - 12' boom antennas from name brand manufacturers. After looking up Antennaweb I thought I would be lucky to get a dozen channels, but with this jewel, I get 50, and two of them (CW, ABC) are now low power. I spent half the money, and got more reliable channels than I have ever had. On a side note, I am curious why the FCC would allow major networks to go low power in a semi rural community, because my old system would not have picked up these two networks despite the size and cost of it.

I'm using an RCA model antenna and it picks up the channels I want.
Any antenna from about the late 40s on (when they reorganized the channel frequencies) should work either indoor or outdoor depending on your needs. You don't need any of those fancy 93-million-mile range 4K HD AI 3D Ultraviolet gamma x-ray antennas Amazon promotes.
