How To Mute Bends Without String Noise

If you are studying how to play blues guitar, you will find no shortage of lessons teaching blues guitar licks. But blues licks often included bends, and not all bends are supposed to be played the same. In this blues guitar lesson, I will focus on bends that go up, but do not come back down. Releasing a string under tension will result in ringing, noisy strings - unless you know how to mute them. In this lesson I will show you how to mute these ringing strings after releasing a bent note.

I like the fact that you’re looking at the neck like it’s being played and not from the front (backwards) ❤️👍

Great vid Anthony! Don’t practice until you get it right. Practice until you can’t get it wrong!

The Speed Workshop is the best guitar course I've ever taken.

These lessons really help to finetune my bends. It must take a lot of effort and energy to make and upload these, I thank you so much for this. Kind regards from a bluesfan from the Netherlands..:)

Man, I've been playing since I was sixteen, almost 30. And this STILL had fantastic advice.

This channel is a gem amongst garbage. Maybe make a second channel for the "generic shit" but please keep this one around. This channel has saved my ass with many things.

Thanks a million.

My real take away...?

That stop before a descending feel on the bend.

Really helped me today - I've been using my right hand to help mute - but I don't want to do that as my right hand is maintaining the rhythm. This was great - I'm subbed.

Just wanted to stop by and say I (and I'm sure most of your followers) greatly appreciate the effort you put into these excellent videos. Sorry the stupid Youtube algo randomly punishes you for not making garbage listicles - we are grateful you produce real content vs clickbait crap to optimize views. The content you produce is some of the best guitar instruction on Youtube. Hope you get have a great weekend. Will prob join TXBA locals at some point in the future. Not sure how else you can get financially rewarded for your content without falling into the low quality clickbait stuff.

Great lesson, several “ah, that’s how you do that” moments. Thank you!

Something I had trouble with and still do at times is doing PRE-BENDS. It doesn't feel natural to bend a sting without striking it, that's something I really have to work on when warming up... lol.

Excellent lesson! Out of curiosity, why can't one apply the first technique that you described to the Albert King stuff you demonstrated in the video?

I’m glad I found your channel! It’s so helpful especially with techniques I wasn’t sure how to do properly and cleanly.

I was having problems with strings ringing any time I'd let out of a bend. My issue was that the action was too high. Once I finally lowered it, the ringing strings seemed to stop happening so much. I think some of it is finger mechanics, also, and not having my fingers correct.

I wish there were other resources that went into as much detail and explanation as you do. Out of all of the guitar courses I've looked over and tried in the last 8 months, none are this detailed. Thanks!
