I was in an abusive relationship. And my good friend from middle school was always there. He helped me serve him a protection order. When my ex stalked me at night, my friend was there. Stayed with me, got me water and helped me call the police. Today, my friend and I, we’ve been married 8 years. I’ve known him most of my life. My situation reminds me of this movie. He was always there. Some people are lucky enough to have that support while learning to not be a victim of abuse anymore.

Once my ex became wheelchair impaired and knew he couldnt intimidate me, he started taking it out on my teenage daughter. Threatened her and purposely made her feel worrhless . Not to mention screaming at her when i was at work. I kicked him out in February..best decision i have made.

She subconsciously attracted a man similar to her father because her nervous system got used to that dysfunction. Atlas was the safest love she received from a boy. Even got a tattoo to match the heart wood carving he made her as a reminder. It took seeing him 20 years later to bring back that hope for safe love. And the birth of her daughter. Lily’s mother wasnt brave enough to leave the abuser. But shes proud of Lily for leaving her abuser. Lily broke the chains of generational trauma. She wanted more and better for herself and for her daughter. In the end she found safe stable love back in Atlas…

Yeah and most women would never tell their abuser they’re going to leave them while holding a newborn child because obviously if there’s some violent involved and infant nearby is not smart… But I love how he belittles her and beats the shit out of her throughout the movie but then He’s like you have the best mommy ever after she ask for a divorce? I don’t think so… I am a domestic abuse survivor and I’ve helped many others and this is so far from reality and truth and so romanticises it. It’s yucky. I could definitely see why the actor Justin Baldoni was getting frustrated because it’s very clear that all the women that were working on the film were all enamoured with Blake Lively and he wanted to tell an actual story.
