Very cool! I did speech therapy for about the first ten years of my life and I recall my parents being involved and very supportive.

I really like your outlook on how the kids you're working with don't feel secluded, but actually that the other kids are often a bit jelly and want to get in on the action too :) I think more parents should adopt that viewpoint.

I love these videos because I'm 18 and I stutter, and I have been seeing a speech therapist since I was in 7th grade. These videos are very comforting.

I started talking when I five years old and I was diagnosed with Autism when I was 4 I was in speech therapy from kindergarten until I graduated from high school. speech therapy really helped me out because I was able to communicate in college. I have gotten diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder when I was a teenager. speech therapy helped me express myself even though I have been embarrassed about it because I was being pulled out of class.

I've seen a speech therapist a couple of times.. once when I was a kid and stopped speaking (apparently, I don't remember) and once when I lost my voice for a couple of years in my early 20's. I kind of wish the speech therapist was as warm as Catherine.. mine was super scary lol! It didn't help me but purely because my loss of voice was a symptom of my PTSD which wasn't diagnosed at this point and we all assumed it was physical. I hadn't mentioned any mental health issues to anyone at this point so of course they had no idea what they were actually working with and inevitably couldn't help me. But I can totally see how much it can help those struggling with speech, I learned a lot despite it not being what I needed!

Thank you for talking about this.. It seems a lot of people don't even know speech therapy is a thing! Whenever I have mentioned it I've had people ask me what it is. It's so important to raise the awareness that there is something out there for those who need it. :)

Do you think you'd be able to do a video on mutism and/or selective mutism at some point? xoxo

Kati this was so helpful! My son has been in speech since he was 2. He went from barely talking to non stop talking! Haha He is 5 now and still has a hard time pronouncing words but he's always improving which is wonderful:)
Anyway, before I took him to speech therapy, I was searching the Internet for this video, something to put my mind at ease- but there wasn't much out there.... this is going to help SO many people.
Thank you Catherine for all of that info.❤️
I will pass this on to my mom friends:)

I really liked this vid. I was in speech therapy when I had Selective Mutism. Sadly, my parents weren't as involved. they tried so hard for me to speak. I didn't talk to anyone and if I did, I whispered and that was only if I really needed something. The school discontinued the therapy and I battled with SM for 5 more years. I started pushing myself to speak, easier. said than done, when I was 12. Now I'm 17 and I have no filter and run my mouth(:
anyway this was a good video, I'm really excited for the Selective Mutism video to come out. I will be blasting it on all my social media.
Good job, Kati(:

Thanks Kati and Catherine, I work with little kids so I feel like it's good to have some knowledge on things like this and have an idea of activities and who in the community I could refer families to if needed. :)

This topic was kind of personal to me because I was in speech therapy from age 5 to 10. In my situation my parents didn't really help, and still make fun of me to this day, and the speech therapist didn't do much. I most played games which never revolved around speech or helping me in any way. In 4th and 5 grade I went to a different school and had a better speech therapist. I had a hard time with r's, s's, and t's. My speech problem also put me behind on reading and writing. I'm better now, but I'll never forget my 2nd speech therapist, she was great.

like one of my moms friends that did a ted talk about this (she has a speech problem) and she said ITS NOT HER FAULT THAT YOU DONT LIKE THE WAY SHE TALKS ITS YOURS and that is how i feel (it can take her several minuets to get out her thoughts and she has to repeat words sometimes) *she doesnt want help and never did* when you force help you tend to make shit worse

Thank you for this video, Kati. Even though I implement some of the tips in this video, I could do more. I need to be more creative in my approach when handling my daughter's needs.

I was cleaning this weekend and found my old speech therapy book! I always felt weird being pulled out of class but i was definitely not the only one and it was only 1 year ish and I'm glad I speak clearly now. And I remember being siked to get stickers in the book when I finished things. I was really into stickers in second grade I guess.

This is a little unrelated but when you can you should do an updated video about autism or just anything having to do with it in general like tips for social situations, dating, coping with it in general or just any idea in general I'd love to see it at some point 😊

Love this. My son's speech therapist lets me come back and watch so I can hear how he's doing

Im profoundly deaf in both ears and have been since birth i have cochlear implants and i find it so difficult to communicate with some people and i just feel like i clam up when someone tries to speak to me in public. I cannot speak clearly sometimes and have to resort to sign language. I dont know what to do and dont feel comfortable talking about it with the audiologists because they have helped me so much and i feel ill be letting them down. btw love ur videos!!

Hi Kati! What do you think about taking medication for a mental illness... Do you think that it is better to use therapy or a combination of both?
