His honesty is refreshing. This is one of the main reasons that led me to realize I couldn’t touch alcohol ever again.
If I get drunk, I immediately start looking for a way to “turn it up” a notch. A few drinks with dinner at professional retreat has led to finding myself at an after-hours strip club at 6am, ‘speedballing’ in the Houston ghetto, chasing the dragon, and surrounded by gang members happy to take my money. Unfortunately that sequence of events was not a one-off.
When I was 18, I thought I’d be a ‘badass’ to ever collect stories like that, (young person reading this might even think so too) but, now I’m 33, and let me assure you that it wasn’t cool then, and now I’d gladly return all those memories and highs for everything addiction has taken from me and all the ways my brain and self will never be the same.

I’m lucky to have even survived. That was just before Fent took over, so I wouldn’t have lived to see 26 had I continued. Heed my words, as half the ppl I knew in that life didn’t make it, and only a lucky few fully recovered to live a fulfilling life after.

When you work to get clean, you start working to piece together what drove the addiction, in my case found out I actually had a brain & spine tumor, needing urgent surgery. The addiction made it impossible to notice the symptoms were something else until I was clean. If only I knew that I’d be fighting incurable diseases the rest of my life and the last thing I needed was another one of my own making. I’ll always wonder if how different (better) my life would have been had it not been consumed by addiction in my early 20s.

Please kids, I beg you, don’t learn the hard way like I did. Don’t think you can outsmart the power of drugs, they short-circuit your ability to reason in your own self-interest.
