Founded in 1865 to combat the rise of counterfeit currency in the U.S. the Secret Service has evolved to the first line of defense for not just the President of the United States but for the First Family and visiting heads of state as well. With an annual budget of about $2.2 billion a year, there are now more than 7,000 Secret Service members. Some are pencil pushers, others are tech nerds, and some are ready to take a bullet for the Commander in Chief without hesitation. But no matter their role, everyone is important. And while their day-to-day tasks may seem obvious to most, there are those tasks that range from strange to intriguing. I have always had the highest respect for members of the Secret Service. These are truly supremely developed agents, including one aspect not covered in the video: It doesn't matter if they personally agree with their protectees or like them (or vice versa) - they are fully committed to a higher duty, protecting their charge at all costs. And they do that incredibly well. Respect.

Dad fought from Normandy through the Hedge row country and all the way to Bastogne. He was an excellent shot, but it was his tactics that impressed the Army and one of their Generals was very impressed. Best secret service personnel don't have that much training or experience in the field . Patton was who recognized dad .

Years ago we had a President visit our city that was well publicized. I sat near a window that overlooked a nearby section of the airport. Other employees who were on break would listen to news or hear something about his visit and when someone told me that the President had left, I pointed to the still quite visible, but very stationary plane that had no activity around it. Either I decided either the media was lied to or that he was on a different aircraft since the plane we saw didn’t take off until very late evening. It was obvious that confusion/deception was at play.

Y’all remember that movie guarding Tess where Nicolas Cage was secret service agent in charge of guarding the former First Lady played by Shirley Mclane not sure how accurate it was but it was a good movie, on the other side in the line of fire was excellent and shows the treasury side
