The Gelmer Funicular is a funicular railway in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It links a lower terminus at Handegg, in the Haslital with an upper terminus at the Gelmersee lake.

The Gelmerbahn was the steepest funicular in Switzerland and Europe, until the opening of the new Stoos Funicular in 2017.

A monstrous climb of maximum 106 percent gradient indisputably makes this funicular railway the steepest in Europe. Both the ascent and descent in the open carriages are an adventure by themselves.

The Gelmerbahn funicular takes tourists a vertigo-inducing 6,000 feet above sea level to Lake Gelmer and while the journey might be slow it's not for the faint-hearted.
