When I first heard this song, it broke my heart and I cried. I cry every time I hear it now. This is exactly how I felt. It is hard to say goodbye to someone you love that you've been with most of your life.
5 years ago I lost my husband to cancer. We were married 35 years. Now, both my parents are fighting cancer. My dad was given two more years and my mother only 18 months.
These two people have saved my life many times over. It would take more than a lifetime to pay them back for what they've done for me.
They both took in a child that wasn't theirs and raised her the best they could. That child was me.
I'm the result of a an affair my mother had, my biological mother that is. He didn't have to do what he did for me. He chose to. His second wife talked him into it. She said it was the best thing they could do for me. It was an abusive situation and they wanted to get me out of it as quickly as possible. So they fought for me and they won. I call her mom because she is more of a mother than my own mother was. Both of my kids call her grandma. Both my grandkids call her Gigi, Great Grandma for short.
I'm going to miss them both when they're gone. It's going to be hard.
