Thank you! EXCELLENT insights —both practical and technical. You’ve given me great ideas. I might add the possibility of using backlighting to explore translucency, as was apparent in one of your photos of a person’s shawl. I like to use translucency especially in scenes of flowers or autumn trees.

Hi Matti, backlighting is something we don't do enough of as photographers and sometimes we need to be reminded of that. It is. Photographing on automatic discourages backlight somewhat. Unfortunately I learned on an automatic camera. Seeing the slides the uncle of my ex-wife took with his Zeiss Contessa between 1955-1972 taught me backlight is beautiful. His pic of sunrise in the woods, with his wife between the trees as a small silhouette, was better than his sunset pics.
