Had this surgery done, the recovery was brutal but the results are amazing.

I had this surgery almost 7 years ago, and it completely changed my face for the better. I did however lose all sensation in the right side of my face, from my cheekbone down it's completely numb, lips and chin too. For anyone having this surgery, please understand this happening is very rare, I was just unlucky, and have since adapted to it :)

I'm 45 and half way through treatment . Surgery 2025 xmas. Also found a brain tumour this year and herniated all the discs in my neck. Still carrying on with orthodontist treatment as waiting for this my entire life . Nhs been amazing and said they would only stop treatment if I felt I couldn't cope with the stress of my other health conditions, my ortho is always available to remove braves at a moments notice at neurological request as does cause issues with mris but luckily my tumour is in a place that doesn't really matter if the braces flashes up on the mri . Can't wait for my surgery and praying tumour doesn't grown on next April's scan .❤😊

I did this operation about a week and a half ago and the swelling is already almost gone, feeling is returning and everything is better. I don't know what people are whining about but if you have bite issues/self esteem/ sleep apnea whatever then just do it. Caveat is make sure you have a good surgeon who's done many of them prior. Don't go to some South Korean chop shop is all.

Pain isn't a reason to back out. If you have trusted surgeons that do good work, get it done. I am 26 and I regret not having it done as a teen, I need to save more money but I will get it done before 30.

BSSO used for elongation of mandible to put patient into skeletal class 1 instead of class 2. Need ortho before and after. bone is separated bilaterally pulled forward and teeth are put in proper order. Plates and screws are put and jaw is fixed.

I had this exact surgery in 2003. I guess my surgeon wasn't very careful with those nerves. Lol i lost certain feeling in my face for yeeeeaaars.. but bow 15 years later it has repaired itself. Just a very slow process regaining sensation o n my cheeks... From what I remember, the surgery was extremely difficult. Granted I was only 16 at the time. But, if I coukd go back I would definitely do it all over again. I was doing acting and modeling at the time and already having dominant features, high cheekbones, and a strong jaw. The surgery helped my profile tremendously, giving a much more prominent jawline, and did help my self esteem. Having a dominant nose when your chin is pulled back slightly makes your nose appear muchb larger. Lol I believe the adjustment was only a few millimeters, but it definitely made a vast difference in appearance. Now, to this day at 32 years old I still get a lot of compliments on my features, being compared to certain celebrities like johnny depp, heath ledger, and others that have dominant facial features.

hi, essentially for people who have a skeletal Class III malocclusion, BSSO is also employed to retract the lower jaw. So it's really the same procedure, but depending on the starting skeletal relationship, it is either advanced or retracted. Hope this helps= )

It really worth it! I'm 2 weeks post op and still a bite swollen but i can tell that it will look much better than t was before. I had no pain at all... the swollen feelling was really annoying but thats it.

Looks like a super delicate surgery 😳 I had braces like 10 years ago and they recommended this but my parents didn’t consent at that time and I’m thankful cause I now see how risky it is. I’ll just get a chin implant and fillers for my mentolabial to fix my side profile, seems safer.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm schedule for both procedures on Nov. 2nd. It was great to read the comments from people who have had this surgery.

I had this exact surgery done to me in 2004 with great results. I would do it all over again if I had to.

Just had the surgery on Nov. 2nd. It really isn't that bad--not really painful. The worst part for me was that I kept biting the inside of my cheeks. My chin and lower lip are still numb--very annoying! So glad I did it. It has eliminated my sleep apnea.
