Welcome to the full review video for Zorin OS! Here, I go over some things about the OS that make it unique, and might make you want to consider using it. I talk about the design of the OS, differences in the Windows and Linux file system, and even running Windows programs on Linux using Wine. I hope you enjoy the video, and as always, thanks for watching! :)

Regarding the issue of viruses on Linux, yes you can get viruses on Linux, yes they are less rare than those on Windows but it's not just down to number of users on each OS.

Linux uses a strict security model from the offset, the first thing you do is create a non root user whereas in windows you creates an admin as the default user, most Linux users are more technically capable than a windows user, I've seen numerous people treat UAC on Windows as an annoyance, rather than an important security mechanism, just do a search for disable UAC and you will see what I mean. They will just blindly grant admin rights to a program without even wondering why it is needed. Everything on Linux is modelled to be more secure, with a single command I can update the whole system, security patches are released regularly.

A follow-up now that there is more focus from the Linux crowd and Steam on gaming should be considered

As a fairly experienced linux user I have to say this looks great. I used to recommend linux mint for people coming from windows wanting to try linux but I might start recommending this instead. I'm not sure if it was mentioned here but this is ubuntu which for me is a plus.

I tried this OS in a VM myself, and the absolute first thing I noticed was, "Oh hey, pressing the Window key doesn't bring up the "start" menu. So... This is supposed to be a Windows-like OS right?"

There's apparently technical reasons why it isn't set like that out of the box, and I believe it has to do with the desktop environment, even though it is possible to enable through third party software. But, it's just stupid to me that they would leave that out. I get that not everyone uses Windows with every shortcut key, but that's a pretty major one, and if this OS aims to be user friendly to those that are mostly from Windows, it should be tailored to all Windows users.

If the OS is going to make those claims, I'm definitely going to be hard on it, especially since there's a version that you can actually buy.

I love passport.mid at the end! I remember being a kid and getting into C:\Windows\Media in Windows 98 and feeling like I had found a goldmine! Boy I loved MIDIs! I remember another MIDI there called canyon.mid if I'm not wrong.

Installed on my laptop alongside Windows 10. So hard to use, but I want to live at least for a week with this OS. Still I liked Mint way more. Thinking of installing that.

The problem with this distro is that it comes with Wine. Okay, it is convinient to run Windows programs on Linux, but it is also a security risk with its default settings. By default it mounts the whole root directory (/) as the Z: drive and uses home folder as the user folder. So that means if there is a malware application that encrypts your data, for example, it'll still encryot your data on your Linux machine. A way to bypass this is to isolate the user folder and disable the Z: drive using winecfg. The problem is that most novice Linux users are not going to do that, so they think they are safe running Windows apps, altough they're clearly not.

Zorin OS has that many GNOME applications because the Zorin OS DE is a heavily modified version of GNOME 3, so it can be changed to look 100% like Windows XP through 10 (perfectly, not the way the Zorin team did it) Also, the Ultimate version of Zorin OS 11 includes 3 more themes: Windows 2000, MacOS and Unity (the now defunct default desktop of Ubuntu)

Take a shot every time Michael MJD says "like" or "you know" in his older videos (like, from 2018, 2017, 2016 and so on).

Actually, it's just harder to get viruses on Linux because it would require Root permission to install. Linux can't get rouge viruses like Windows, because they can't gain root access without your permission.

Interesting distro might put this on my uncles computer so he don´t have to worry about viruses that much and it will most likely work better on hes old pc.

10:19 When pressing the Windows key (Super on Ubuntu) it, (Ubuntu) opens up a full screen search menu which shows recent apps, files, and when searching, amazon stuff. On Fedora it does something similar, Mint opens up the little start menu thing.

While it is partially because the popularity of Windows it has been a target of viruses, it is not the whole story. *Nix based systems generally use a much more secure security model than Windows. It is not impenetrable, especially by user errors, but extremely far ahead of Windows. Windows is kind of in a tough spot there, because increasing security would mean breaking backwards compatibility.
