Truly an interesting hat! Coming from a surgical background, I find that recognising "stitch anatomy" is as important in crochet as it is in surgery! The pattern is wonderful but the instructions are a bit confusing. After doing the first section and then making the shirt rows in the opposite direction I’m confused about going back to the beginning. Some more pictures and a video of you making the the entire hat would be very helpful.

He does appreciate the effot I put into hand-made items. And we unfortunately have been alienated from each other due to unforseen circumstances, so I try to make special items for him so that he has as much of my love in every stitch that I can put into it. He actually asked me to make a hat for him. He has hopes and plans of starting a YT Channel as soon as he is able. Very interesting indeed. I have knitted lots of hats, but the one that I have worn and worn for years has been one I knitted sideways (neige eternal pattern) with short rows. It's by far the most comfortable as easiest to knit as there's no awkward part of knitting a circle with just a few stitches. This is a very similar technique and I had never thought of doing the same short rows in crochet, so thank you so much for your video!
