“Why My Wife and I Can’t Shower Together” #really

Women often experience colder hands and feet compared to men, and this can be attributed to differences in metabolism and body composition. On average, women tend to have a lower basal metabolic rate, which means their bodies generate less heat at rest. This lower heat production can lead to a reduced ability to maintain warmth in the extremities, like the hands and feet, especially in cooler environments.

Additionally, women generally have a higher percentage of body fat and less muscle mass compared to men. While body fat acts as an insulator, muscle tissue is more metabolically active and produces more heat. As a result, women might feel colder more easily, particularly in their extremities where blood flow may be more restricted in response to cold temperatures.

These physiological differences help explain why many women prefer higher shower temperatures. The warmth from a hot shower not only helps to compensate for the lower heat production but also improves blood circulation to the hands and feet, providing comfort and relief from the sensation of cold.

Never had this problem. My body temp is lower than normal and I feel hot most of the time. My husband took me to an ice castle one year for my birthday and I wanted to make it our permanent home.

I find that as a short person, the water is colder by the time it hits me, unless I take the shower head and bring it close to me. My husband is much taller and feels the heat sooner because he is closer to the source.

This also happens if you've had a chronic disease as a woman. I have long-covid and run colder than ever before. And I have temperature changes where I feel as if there are ice cubes in my bones... So I love showering at 38 degrees Celsius.

I’ve always wondered why men were so sweaty and heat intolerant! I remember noticing the difference when I was a toddler, before I could even speak. Men freaked me out because they were always sweaty and their beard stubble was so sharp. 😂
Anyway….Thanks for explaining.

I knew men run hotter. That's why they give us their sweaters.

My fiancé and I are the opposite. I am a woman but I prefer the water cooler. He wants to cook like a damn lobster. He will have me sweating in the shower to the point where I need another shower to wash off the sweat from the first one! No thanks!

I'm the opposite. I have a medical condition that makes me get light headed in too much heat. I tend to shower just a bit cooler than most people. When I used to get my hair done in a salon they'd always boil my scalp and I'd ask them to make the water cooler and they acted like it was going to ruin my hair when really hot water damages your hair. I stopped going because they wouldn't stop making it boiling hot and burning my head

I’m only 37, yet with the hot flashes I get now, I can’t take hot showers anymore. I was definitely a hot shower girl up to my 30’s. I started lowering the temperature as I heard it was better for my skin and finishing off with cold water to close the pores and tighten the skin (true or not?). The other benefit isn’t having a steamed up mirror.

It's weird, when I was younger this was me, but now I can't stand the shower being any warmer than a little over lukewarm.

What's wrong with me then? I've always run hot and I live in fear of menopause - hot flashes may cause spontaneous combustion! 🤣

I don’t like the water too hot. My boyfriend really liked the water hot! But the house always had to be cold! He was overweight, so I think he just couldn’t feel the temperature like I could.

I'm honestly freezing most the time anymore, even on 100-degree days, so I can believe this

When hubby jumps into the shower with me in the morning, he can't handle the heat right away 😅

I'm a woman living in Florida without AC, I turn the shower as cold as it will go.

Its been the opposite with me and all the men Ive known . Relationships, social situations like swimming, saunas, holidays. Ive always been the one able to take cold rivers with ease, prefering colder room temps.

I dunno why but it's backwards for me and my hubby lol he generally wants the shower hotter than I can stand and I whine the entire time until he turns it down a tad 😂

This always reminds me of the comic strip I saw with a couple in the shower together. She is enjoying the shower but his skin had been boiled off. I always laugh thinking about it 😂

The couple in the video look like siblings.

"Normal person" temp is 98.6F, I'm usually at ~97.3F but I need cooler showers or I get lightheaded and nauseated. No idea why but it's been that way since I was a kid, can't even be in hot tubs so I stick my feet in a little bit and that's enough lol. My partner is the hot shower guy, but he'll put up with just warm for me when we do jump in together ❤
