Came to YouTube to try and learn more about Benjamin Butler, the person who invented the concept of liberating slaves by calling them 'contraband', the founder of the school that would eventually become Hampton University, the congressman who wrote the statute that allowed the government to shut down the kkk, and eventual governor of Massachusetts. I had read conflicting reasons why he was called "Beast Butler" and hoped this national geographic video would shed some light. I was quite disappointed.

.As humans we continue to fail to see both sides of a historical perspective. We choose to see the one that aligns with our personal view, and belittle the one that opposes us. The presenter only cares to appeal to his audience by highlighting negatives as seen through his eyes. Just like a 14 year old high school kid he insults Butler”s cross eyed nature to gain a cheap laugh.
