Commercial airlines are the only way to get to Greenland unless you arrive on a cruise ship. There are 4 cities worldwide with direct flights to Greenland which are Copenhagen, plus three cities in Iceland (Reykjavik, Keflavik and Akureyri). Direct flights to Greenland from Iceland take around 2-3 hours, while the flight from Copenhagen to Greenland takes around 4 hours. The two airlines that currently fly to Greenland are the local airline Air Greenland and Air Iceland.

There are no direct connections from North America to Greenland at this point. However, daily connections from Canada and the US allow for an easy one-connection trip to Greenland.

All five regions in Greenland have at least one international airport with Kangerlussuaq Airport (SFJ) being the biggest transportation hub in Greenland. There are also many domestic airports that connect the other towns and settlements and make it easy to get around in Greenland.

I worked in the Canadian Arctic and used to get into the US Air Base at Thule. We were based out of Alert, Ellesmere Island involved in some geophysical work and also some ice observations in the Robeson Channel between Ellesmere and Greenland. I spent a few nights on the Greenland Coast camped out at one of our Loran installations. I would love to go back and visit Nuuk, which I used to know as Godhaab.

The shortest distance from Canada is only 16 miles. So just walk towards Greenland until you get there.

You really need to address that flights to Greenland is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. It will literally cost you your arm and your leg.


If the Greenlandic government wants to boost tourism, get the airfare lower.


The Faroe Islands, which is a sister state in the Kingdom of Denmark has got that on the perfect level.
