Marie Kondo Organizes Toys | Apartment Therapy

Marie Kondo is known for her ability to take even the trickiest of messes and transform them into folded, controlled spaces that, in her words, "spark joy."

When the bestselling author of the "Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" came into our studios recently to demo how her new organizational boxes work, we challenged her to tackle the toy area.

We've seen so many that look like the "before" in the video above: scattered, disorganized, and Legos everywhere. And even if you can manage to corral this area into some sense of control for a bit, it's hard to find a system that works (and that kids understand) long term. So we asked Kondo to work her magic. That's all well and good...but the KIDS ain't gonna put that stuff back like that!

If there is only a limited number of toys it’s very easy to tidy up … it’s better and easier to just go minimalist

Can she pretty please organize a woman's purse. It's what I use all day and they end up a pile of junk inside. Even Mary Poppins stamped her foot in frustration as she dug her arm and stuck her head in her purse to find that measuring tape. A womans purse at the grocery store and her wallet too

Most kids have too much plastic junk for toys.

How do the kids find anything???? If the toys are stored this way, the child has to first go get their favorite toy, Mom, in order to play with anything. Know any 2 year olds who can unzip little pouches? And how can the kids possibly clean up? Again, Mom gets another job. :(
