The sound - perfect. The picture - very clear. Absolutely brilliant! A movie that I can watch over and over again. Brilliantly directed by the late Sir Richard Attenborough.

While seeing this scene, I wonder how brilliantly "hey ram" has been written. Kamal Hasan - the legend.

Sad but great film great acting from Ben Kingsley. My grandfather a Jew was a friend of Gandhi he met him during the Great War in India and attended his funeral in 1948. That scene isn’t fake the crowd scene from high up was 400.000 people extras.

Spiritual people aren't flawless. They are people. They have to travel a path that is marred with mistakes too. The difference is that they're willing to learn and grow on their journey. ♥ *that being said, nobody is worth following blindly.

Very much in the mold of a David Lean film. Fantastic

We watched this movie in class in my 9th grade. When the assassination scene came on almost everyone laughed… I didn’t. Its a true shame to see people treat tragedies of influential people as some joke…

Mahatma Gandhi was not the commander of armies nor a ruler of vast lands. He could not boast any scientific achievement or artistic gift. Yet men governments, dignitaries from all over the world have joined hands today to pay homage to this little brown man in the loincloth who led his country to freedom.

In the words of General George C. Marshall the American secretary of state Mahatma Gandhi has become the spokesman for the conscience of all mankind. He was a man who made humility and simple truth more powerful than empires. And Albert Einstein added: Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.

Originally, these guys considered using a hand grenade. But then decided it wasn't necessary. Who knew assassins had standards?

My mum is from Mauritius (and a Hindu) My Nanny and Nana explain to my Mum how important Gandhi was to the world, too many Hindus he was like a god even though that wasn't what he wanted! My daughter is 11 and she hasn't been taught about Gandhi however she knows about what he did from her Nanny and me. When she was 7 she asked (and I took her) to go to Madame Tussauds just so she could see the waxwork of Gandhi and take pictures of him so she could show her Nanny that even though she isn't being taught about this amazing human in school she knows about him and how important he was to the world. It's amazing how so many historical figures have been glossed over and the impact they had to the world!!!

The sad part is, based on interviews of the brother of Gandhi’s murderer, that they decided to kill him after hearing about the repayment to Pakistan by India of 100 millions rupees. The trigger of their decision was… money… to kill a man who had given up on money.

"Gandhi" is the filtered, censored version of Indian freedom struggle. Gandhi stayed in 5 star jails, had goat milk every morning, did yoga, and wrote poems. Potraying his life story is the safest for the british to accept their wrongs, it's all roses.

Indian freedom struggle was much more gruesome and bloody. To everyone who wants to know the darker side of the struggle, watch "Sardar Udham Singh"... a fantastic oscar worthy movie
