i love how he debunks and explains the other stereotypical vampire traits and then just says *"the garlic thing are pure fiction."*

Please NOTE this: in the original vampire stories, vampires did NOT combust in sunlight. They were simply WEAKENED by it so naturally, they prefer overcast days and the night time.

"Vampires are a evolved predatory species, so their eyesight is pretty different to ours. Turns out if you start waving a big geometric shape right in front of their faces it confuses the shit out of their brains and, you know - makes them panic" -Trevor Belmont

As a biology student and a vampire enthusiast, I loved this video so so much

The vampire inability to cast a reflection in mirrors probably has more to do with the fact that in the past, mirrors were made of polished silver, which vampires are afraid of, whereas modern mirrors are glass and should easily reflect a vampire.

Garlic is a natural antibiotic. In theory, consuming an adequate supply of garlic could kill off some or much of the symbiotic bacteria in the vampirism gut, causing significant decrease in the energy producing processes and making the vampire "sick".

I've always found it funny that a wooden stake to the heart was necessary to kill a vampire...Hotel Transylvania made me laugh, when the count was asked, "Would a wooden stake to the chest kill you?" ...to which his response was, "Yeah. But, who wouldn't that makes me wonder how many people throughout history got away with killing people, due to them having used a wooden stake, and accusing their victims of being vampires...Hrmm..

I can’t believe my ADHD and school schedule made me procrastinate watching this cool video for an entire year.

An interesting point to consider: some humans are tetrachomatic. They have an additional cone that is sensitive to near-infrared visible light just as you mention in the video. Rather than giving them the ability to see colors others don't or being super sensitive to day light, they tend to be able to more easily discern similar shades of color from each other. It's primarily carried on the X chromosome, so the majority of people with it are genetically female.

Fast twich muscle fibers get tired faster than slow-twich. Following the ideas in the video, a vampire is capable of insane speed, agility and force, but will "burn out and crash" later. So making them ambush predators make sense, as their recovery time means that if they cant get the kill, they will have to run away and recover or face exaustion near a very angry human

Something people tend to forget is that blood used to be a lot more mystical than it is today. Now we know you can't live without it, but back then I think many cultures considered it life itself, possibly containing your soul too.

I love that he added obsessive counting of objects as a trait among vampires

I love this, serious scientific explanations for fictional things

Some settings have their own explanations to vampires, but this works excellent for any that does not.

I think you should change PCDH-Y to PCDH-X. The Y version is connected to the Y chromosome so by default it cannot necessary for the nervous system to function since half the people on earth already lack the gene anyway, or if it was vital for vampires then they would only be targeting male victims. The X version on the other hand could be vital to the nervous system and is present in both men and women.

"because of this vampires are much more prone to obsessive habits such as rearranging and counting objects" I didn't expect Count von Count to be referenced in this video.

"The human vampiric virus, as I've come to call it"
Missed opportunity to call it "vampirus".

The right angles thing is hilarious because just imagine you're being cornered by this apex predator monster, and then, just when you think all is lost, your geometry homework falls out of your bag and Dracula starts having a fvcking seizure because his brain can comprehend a fvcking rectangle 💀

bro, man found a way to scientifically make vampires weak to a crucifix. next level dedication
