Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 Movie Review

Kevin Costner’s Horizon might be the most ambitious movie undertaking since Lord of the Rings. Think about it - Kevin Costner has sunk a huge chunk of his own personal fortune into making an epic Western saga, with a second movie only weeks away from hitting theatres, regardless of whether or not the first makes him any money. If that weren’t enough, he’s already started shooting pieces of the third film, and he’s sworn he’ll also be making a fourth film as well. Given the scope of his ambitions, it’s hard to truly judge Horizon - Chapter 1 as a standalone film, with it so clearly part of a much bigger whole.

My wife and I both saw it and really enjoyed it. I urge people to forget the reviews and see it. We need more movies with no super heros .

I'm going to see it in the theater because if we don't support this level of ambitious movie making then we have no right to b!tch about the garabage Hollywood churns out.

We need more movies in theaters that are made for adults, and I hope this can make some money. People bit@@ about remakes, sequels, reboots, superhero movies and so on but many of these same people also go watch these movies in theaters. Just watched this movie and liked it. A lot. Old fashion western that doesn’t portray every cavalry soldier as a depraved scalp hunting maniac. Photography and desert scenery alone worth the 3+ hr seating. Good story line, great acting and accurate period settings. Very realistic. No CGI or other special effects. A classic. Cant wait for part two.

I really loved this movie! The scope of the movie, the beautiful scenery the wonderful score of the movie, i just loved it. Mr. Costner took the time to flesh out all the characters. So many films now days rush you through the film with no time to digest what you're seeing, as if they're afraid to let there be a quiet moment. But it's the calm before the storm, I'm very sure of that. I can't wait for the next chapter! Thank you for a wonderful movie!

Honestly, saw it yesterday and this movie was great enough to get me into a theater for the first times in ages, and am EAGER to Chapter 2. Deep stories within a larger theme, living characters with great acting and holy moly the scenery. America never looked to real or so good. See this one of the big screen.

Finally! A great movie in the theaters! I was hesitant because, well movies haven't had a great track record lately. I can't think of a single movie lately worth watching. If the sequal had been playing in the next theater, I would have gladly went in! Can't wait for this story to unfold! Great job, Kostner! Finally someone who knows how to tell a story again!

Love this movie!!!! It’s crazy how refreshing it is to see a CLASSIC WESTERN in the theaters in 2024!!! No stupid superheroes, no remakes, no reboots, no stupid cliche’s, or all the gimmicks that just makes movies total shit nowadays.

This movie IS NOT for your “average movie goer.” This is a Western MADE for people who love Westerns, or just great cinema overall. Kevin Costner didn’t hold back and I love that he didn’t care one bit of adhering to 2024 “identity politics” didn’t care about being “PC” in anyway. No this movie is RAW, VIOLENT and most importantly, HISTORICALLY ACCURATE!!!

We need more quality films like this. Absolute amazing job Kevin Costner!!!

This was a movie I was very much looking forward to this year and I really loved this movie! I had a fantastic time. I really love the 1800s era and am a huge fan of western movies and when I first saw the trailer for this movie, I was amazed. And I play so much of Red Dead Redemption 2.

The cinematography, the action, the set pieces, the music, the characters, etc. just all had my jaw dropping. I sat through the credits while Amazing Grace was playing and just took it all in. These are the kinds of movies I want to see.

Also, it would’ve been awesome to see this movie in IMAX if the movie was shot in IMAX. I can’t wait to see this movie again before seeing Part 2 and I’m so ready for more chapters in this franchise! Kevin Costner delivered!

I personally can't wait! Being old enough to have grown up watching the old John Ford Westerns regularly with my Dad, I appreciate what was good about those films & many more of that era. I still watch them from time to time. I love what comes to the screen thru Costner's mind's eye. I hope this series is successful!

We just left the theater here in Montana. We absolutely LOVED THIS MOVIE! The acting, cinematography, music, animals, horses, cows, children, romance, men, Indians, women, clothing, scenes, everything about this movie was beyond words. I would have sat through it again in a heartbeat. Kevin Costner did it again. This movie will be in our home, right along side Dances with Wolves, Legends of the Fall, Horse Whisperer, A River Runs Through It, All of Client Eastwoods movies, Jeremiah Johnson, I cried my eyes out! I cannot wait to see the remaining three movies. LOVE THIS

This review is 100% spot on. This is EXACTLY as I felt after seeing Part 1. I felt a serious nod to the classic epic western film making Of Ford over others and I was also struck by how bright the film is. It is a massive story that cannot be contained even in one 3 hour movie and I was sad to reach the ending but gratified to know Part 2 is just a round the corner and not a year away. I thoroughly enjoyed it even if it is a slow build. It was gorgeous and thoughtful. Highly recommended.

I saw the movie over the weekend I thought it was excellent can't wait for the second installment in August it's an excellent story with lots of ups and downs actually one of the best movies of 2024 in my book Kevin Costner is great actor and it was a good cast I would have liked to seen Robert Duvall in the movie one could hope it's definitely worth the money to see it

Thanks for the shoutout to John Ford's Cavalry Trilogy. Kevin Costner really does have an appreciation for classic Westerns, and it shows in Horizon just from the trailer alone. Looking forward to the whole quadrilogy.

I saw this movie last night and could have watched another hour of it . I was drawn deeply into each character… very realistic for that time Costner did his homework on this historical period … part 2 is definitely on the radar … 4 1/2 out of 5 ! 2 looks even better!

Rest assured, I do trust that Mr. Costner will continually increase the brightness within the mind’s eye and the warmth of the hope in hearts of the audiences as he brings about a stunning conclusion in an epic example of the historical Western vision.

As for Chapter I? Being blinded by the brilliance of genius can negate the opportunity to be blessed by it. Do not miss the chance offered with Horizon.
