Anderson Cooper profiles prolific music producer Rick Rubin, a tastemaker who guides his artists to tap into their creativity with the most unorthodox approach – using practices like meditation to shape the work rather than marketing to the masses.

"60 Minutes" is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen's Top 10.

It doesn't matter what the genre is, Rick Rubin just knows what sounds good in all aspects of music. The success of the albums he's produced speaks for themselves.

Guy has produced everybody. Hes even worked with slayer back in the nineties. And I love what he says about the audience. They come last.

Where the hell is the full interview! I pay for Paramount+ and it’s not there. How long was it? The longest vid I ran across was only 4 minutes. Or is that it?

Rubin reminds me of Santa Claus in that I Think You Should Leave sketch.

Cooper: Isn’t the whole music business built around trying to figure out what somebody likes?

Rubin: See, even if I do a bad job, they gotta give me that other two mill…

Wow! 🌟 This was a fabulous surprising uplifting interview about what gets put onto an album. I truly had no idea. I have to admit I had never heard of him, although I never listen to any Metal bc it's way too triggering and violent and scares me terribly. I listen to some Women HipHop (Sister Nancy, Rihanna, Nikki Minaj), and some others, but the misogyny and putting Women down too is very hard to deal with.
This doesn't mean I don't like Rick Rubin. Far from it. He seems very Spiritual.
I would love to know his thoughts on serious Legendary World changing Artists like Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen and Nina Simone?
I too am VERY particular about what I think sounds Good and is worth listening to.
I can usually tell within the first Measure: Notes., Melody, Voice whether I will like it.
Examples are:
Pink Martini, "La Soledad"-Impeccable. Pristine Perfection!
Taylor Swift, "Snow On the Beach"- Fabulous Gorgeous Opening 💝 Great Song. Many of Taylor's songs such as "Lover, " also have a very unique sound that you hardly ever find. A bit like Lord Huron at times. "Exile, " another fav. She just "knows" how to create Great 🎵 Music. I think that's why Taylor is so successful because she has that rare Gift that Rick Rubin has.
"Tir Na Nog", by Van Morrison immediately you know this will be GOLD. Van Morrison to me is literally a Spiritual Transcending Guru. I Love Van Morrison like one would Love a Priest in a favorite Church. His Music Transforms me and transcends Time itself 💝🎶😎 Van Morrison is my Prescription for Ultimate Healing 😎💝.
Dustin Tebbutt, "Home", the piano intro is literally to me like Canadian Geese flying Homeward in the dark of night🌃. Don't know why but that is exactly what comes to mind. Dustin is AMAZING! Dustin too knows how to make Great Music 😎🌟🎶
Bruce Springsteen-basically everything. "Drive All Night"- One of the best songs ever. So Raw and just grabs your Heart from the get-go. His lyrics are American Poetry. Hands down The Boss has The Gift.
Just a few examples of how I choose my favorite songs. Most of the time they are not the most popular.
Anderson Cooper really picks some great Interview subjects. Thank you so much for this one. I really Loved it! Best Wishes to Rick Rubin and the Crew at 60. You are all RockStars 🌟😎🎶 ~ Music is that Great Form of Transcendance where a person can be lifted up out of their body and enter a completely different atmosphere and one can live there for awhile in that beautiful World of the Song that the Artist has Created. I am indebted to so many Musicians and Artists and Rick Rubin too for creating these very special Places for me to go to when Real Life is just too hard and Painful. Music is such a Great Healing Element 🎶🙏💝 ~
