Power Bi MySQL Connection Error and Resolution

In this video I am showing the Power Bi MySQL connection error and resolution procedure.

To connect to the MySQL database you need the information below:

-DNS or IP address of the DB Server
-The port at which the database is listening for the connection requests (default 3306)
-Name of the database which is the Schema that has your data tables
-Database credentials that is the User Name and the Password

Supply the Server connection in below format:

IP_Address:Port

For Example:
192.168.1.100:1234

You may discard the port number after the colon if it is the default port 3306

Power BI Report files are saved in "pbix" format. You can copy it to any other PC with PowerBI installed and make modifications.

Microsoft Power BI is a very useful tool that provides business analytics service with interactive visualizations and intelligence capabilities for end users to create their own reports and dashboards.

The desktop version of this tool is free to download and I have given below the link to download it. You can download, install this tool and learn to create informative and interactive reports and dashboards. You need to have proper license to publish your work.

Hi sir, after these installations also i was not able to connect.
Windows 10 64bit
My SQL 8.0.33, connector 8.0.33.

After connector installation u got setup options like custom, typical and complete but i am getting repair and remove. Please help me out on this, i am stuck.

To connect mysql database to powerbi is it necessary to have same bit version of mysql connector and powerbi ?

For me 8.0.30 worked ...make sure to close the Power BI application and refresh it then restart Power BI again...if still it doesn't work then click on connector file and repair it... then restart the power BI app now it should work

i install the netv8.1.0 and odbcv8.1, mysql is latest as well, but still facing the same issue. please help

for newest version of power bi 64 bit window -> 8.0.28 version will work .

Yes Manash, it worked. One thing to note for other people seeking for solution, By the time you are watching this video, the connector might have been updated or Power BI might have, so make sure you select the correct MYSQL connector version, in my case 8.0.32 worked, while the latest version of 8.1.0 didn't

Before we download MySQL connector we download MySQL for separate??

It didn't work for me. Power bi desktop version 2.129.1229.0 64 bit, Mysql-installer-community 8.0.39.0 and mysql-connector-net-8.0.33 and also tried 2-3 versions. Could you plz help on this??

not working, I have installed the mysql-connector-net-9.0.0.msi which is latest version. I have mysql 8.0.37 installed in my system. PowerBI is not connecting with mysql. I have tried several times(installed and permanently deleted the latest version). Still it is showing that latest version is already installed in the computer. What to do?

Good morning, I installed the latest version of Mysql connector, it works on power bi desktop, but on Power bi online it gives this error {"type":1, "value":"We were unable to find a database provider with invariant name 'MySql.Data.MySqlClient'."}} when it's time to refresh the dashboard. Can you help me???

Guys, If you still have this problem, install older version, my newest is 8.3.0, but I installed 8.032. It helped, but I had new error 'We couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided.'. I solved this by usng not my current credentials, but database credentials that are placed right under Windows credentials on the left. Here you need to place username of ur server connection, for me it was 'root' and your password.
